My top 5 active HC's would be:

Bill Belichick
Andy Reid
John Harbaugh
Kyle Shanahan
Sean Mcvay.

Good list. I could see Carroll bring in there, even though I can't stand the guy

If it was a top 6, Pete would be on there.

I would put Carroll ahead of McVay just based on longevity. He has kept Seattle competitive through a lot of player turnover. McVay inherited a lot of talent and won. Let's see him build/retool a time or two before we anoint him.

That is fair.

I'd have Pete over Sean.

edit: dj43 beat me to it but McVay just seems like a dude that was in a good situation. Not sure he's even that great at playcalling.

^ No Mike Tomlin because of recency bias?

One guy isn't lol

Haha. It was a silly poll (made on purpose to be silly). How can an OC hold back his own offense?

...or maybe just another thread to throw shade on you-know-who?

Good call. I'd replace Harbaugh with Tomlin.

What part of the poll is biased? If you don't mind me asking.
NC still dodging the top 5 HC question I see.

And a Superbowl win helps in this equation too.

Water, IIRC, didn't you make this poll because you thought fans were being ridiculous on this issue?

And then it turned out 50/50 which was pretty surprising?

Fair too. I'd put him over McVay honestly and Kyle above him even though he did get the ship.

Near identical numbers. That's why I differentiate HC from OC here.

Who hired the DC?

Oh, Kyle's legit as a HC on identifying position coaches and developing them. In fact, I'd say he's elite there.
so Elite in building staff, elite as OC... but he's the jimmy of HCs... that doesn't add up NC

Try to separate the OC from the HC part if you can.

When you look deeper into Kyle as just the HC, you can see he's still got some seasoning to go. Annual trends.

If you think he's higher as a HC vs. Jimmy as a QB, no worries. I'm not one to go after other's opinions.

Absolute insanity that 50% of posters here at one point voted Kyle.

Outcoached and outschemed Pete Carroll in his own stadium and made him look like a washed up old man.

Even Jim Harbaugh couldn't do this

I never understood the poll. Both have their known strengths and weaknesses. Both are conservative.

Kyle is the Jimmy of HC's...moments where he's coaching at the top of his peers but struggles to close things out esp. when the pressure is on.

As an OC, Kyle is in the upper tier of his peers. Jimmy is not.

You think Kyle is an elite HC already?
I'm laughing at this notion jimmy is the KS of QBs. Good s**t
Also getting a kick out of you continually blaming everyone but jimmy fir that SB loss. OL, Ward, Saleh, , Kyle etc

In their weaknesses for sure. Conservative and clam up when the pressure is high. Prone to make boneheaded mistakes. Super slow starts to the season. Has to have their backs against the wall before gearing up.

As to the second point, the answer is yes...all of the above.

Ha. TBH not sure why I was surprised. You also said McDaniels was the real brains behind the operation and Kyle has no balls, amongst many other things. Those 2 were gems though lol

Well, he was the run game and RZ designer when we were #1 in both last year. Not so much this year. Coincidence?

Has his balls fully dropped? 4th and 2.
