Great another Jimmy thread

You didn't read.

I read it. But Pwns, you really didn't sink your teeth into the meaty matter until the 4th paragraph. And even then, it was wordy. If I were to doff my editor's cap, I'd pare this sucker down to two simple paragraphs that ends with a "YES" or "BITE ME" poll question.

You are also forgetting that Jimmy G. is not going to experience the same sort of success elsewhere if he is presented with a rich free agent deal. This is a team game and Jimmy is surrounded by a GREAT team with TALENT everywhere. Do you think he will find that same kind of stacked lineup on any other team looking to sign him? Short answer: He will not.

Therefore, it may come down to what Jimmy wants. Does Jimmy want money, money, money? Or does Jimmy settle for a smaller amount of money in exchange for hardware, rings and greatness?

More specifically, it is about what the FO should do next season.

When a player is traded, such as Jeff Wilson, or a contract becomes contentious, as in the case of Deebo, the public position of players is to say, "It's just a business deal. We understand it." The reality, and the truth, is that behind the scenes they all have a sense of what is right and proper for the person. As Fropwins said, and as was stated in the Sportrac article, the players love Jimmy G like no other. They respect what he has done to save this season for the team. They see Jimmy as having gone the extra mile for his teammates. Hence, they will be watching closely to see how the FO treats him at the end of the season. Garoppolo has done his part. It won't be just about the money. Now, what will the team do when it comes time for the FO to make a decision?

Why the hell is this new Jimmy thread (oh sorry not a Jimmy thread but "thread about our thoughts about Jimmy" ) okay but others get closed instantly. There's a double standard when it comes to how this place is moderated.

If it becomes another JG thread, it may be closed. For now, the hope is that it will be a thread devoid of all the emotional takes and speculation and just appreciate what we have against a history of 49er football.

It will be watched.

Something tells me that if a less popular poster made this exact same thread word for word it would be locked by now.

But yeah sure this thread "will be watched".

He's better than Garcia. It's not close. He's #3 in 49ers history. Should he make the Super Bowl and win he moves to #2 on the list. Ahead of Steve Young. That would mean he has been in many NFC Championship games, 2 Super Bows where he won 1 and lost 1. That would be BETTER than the Steve Young resume. I don't care anybody says.

Yeah we should keep him. He always wins when healthy. Trey hasn't shown anything. Except he's not ready to play and he's fragile.

Bro you are on drugs. #2 ahead of Steve Young comon man

What would be better on Steve Young's resume at that point? If it were to happen. NOTHING.

Two things spring to mind.

1) No reason this couldn't have just been posted in the Jimmy thread

2) It's based on the assumption that everyone is old enough to have seen Montana/Young win SB's which I don't think is true.

Jimmy is a very good player, but there's nothing wrong with observing his flaws and wanting more from your QB.

If he keeps playing like he did against the Cards there will be a lot less complaints.

I like Jimmy but he has been frustrating. Jimmy G has been fragile too.

I love how you have a tendency to think your opinions are facts by stating "it isn't even close". I heard John Brodie and Y. A. Tittle were damn good. Jeff Garcia is debatable, but in a shoot out I trust him over Jimmy. Kaepernick was scarier than Jimmy G for two seasons. Super Bowl loss and NFC championship loss just like Jimmy. Jimmy never played against a defense as good as the Seattle Legion.

Steve Young is way better and I don't care what your closed mind thinks in that regard. The Cowboys had an all time great team winning 3 Super Bowls in 4 seasons. Jimmy G has never played against a team that good. How many pro bowls, NFL first team, NFL mvps, Super Bowl MVPs, passing titles, etc… does Jimmy G have over Steve Young? Put that into your resume evaluation.
And only because that one throw. was that all you saw?

Great post. If Jimmy hits Sanders and we win that Super Bowl, he'd have gotten Super Bowl MVP and the entire narrative around him would be different. Crazy that one throw means that much, but it does. In many ways the Niners fanbase is indeed a victim of our own success.

This one is tough because Trey is so likeable and has immense talent. I honestly wouldn't be mad going in either direction from here. For now, like last year, just trying to enjoy the ride as it's more than likely the last with Jimmy.
Start Brock Purdy. Dude is a magician.

Nothing. Steve Young didn't win many super bowls but Statistically and Talent wise, he is a way better than QB Garoppolo will ever be. He is a hall of famer for the love of God. Do you ever see Jimmy being a HOF QB?

Steve Young's statistics came during a time where very few teams ran WCOs. You think it's a coincidence guys woh completed 50% of their throws on other teams came to the 49ers and hit 60+%? That had nothing to do with throwing short, high-percentage passes? I'd give Young a slight edge over Jimmy, but it's not as dramatic as fans here think. He had all of the same flaws Jimmy has, except he didn't tear his ACL, so he retained his mobility.

jimmy needs to win super bowl mvp before we cam start comparing him to steve
