If I'm being honest with myself, yes its over. I think we'll still get in the playoffs bc our defense will win a couple games by themselves. And i've always said once the playoffs start you can throw the records out the window but trying to win with your 3rd string QB is impossible. No team has ever done it and i can only think of 1 team to win it with their backup which was the Redskins w/ Doug Williams.
Regardless i will still be watching every game and rooting for this team. Maybe we can get lucky and knock a team out of the playoffs.

After last night Vs the Cowboys I would rather try and talk Phillip Rivera outta retirement.
The Colts are a dumpster fire as an organization.

none of these retired / semi-retired (or kaep) players would be better options than brock purdy.

Yeah, if Mayfield clears waivers, go get him.
Will he have leadership concerns? --- Maybe. But the locker room is too strong. Plus, he can't walk onto the team all arrogantly after flaming out in Carolina and getting cut.
Do we really need to get him? --- Uhhh, yeah. We're in a desperate situation. If we're signing him, it's going to be for minimal money.
If we do sign him, does Mayfield backup or start? --- Roll with Purdy and see what he has. He's had the benefit of having the entire offseason & season in this offense under Shanahan. He knows the offense, and the locker room is rallying behind him. Meanwhile, Mayfield has a higher ceiling, so kick the tires with him and see what he does on the practice field. This guy was talented enough to go #1 OVERALL a few years ago and led the Browns to an 11-5 record + 2 playoff games. The Panthers were willing to trade a fourth/fifth on his talent alone. He has a higher ceiling than Purdy. If there's a team that could do something with him, it's the 49ers.

He wasn't worth much when last seen, predicting his downfall before it happened is how I ran afoul of everyone here about 8 years ago. I was seriously shocked he had two good years before the league caught up with him. Before anyone calls me a racist like many did back then I think Jalen Hurts is going to surpass Mahomes as the best QB in the NFL and stay there a long time unless he gets a leg injury that affects his athletic ability long term. As the league threw things at Kap to slow him down, they slowly rendered him toward the bottom of the QB heap. That was evidenced by the contract offers he was getting. The more they throw at Hurts the more he makes fools out of them. He seems to get better every week.
I bet on SF to win the division on a 6 team parlay. I came back yesterday to look at the game thread to get the low down on Jimmy's injury and what people saw on reviewed plays as the game wasn't on TV here. If you look at the playoff field all teams have had ups and downs, with QBs that have had off games. Teams have beaten KC by taking away the deep ball, Josh Allen is tied for 2nd most interceptions and a good chunk of those are in the redzone as he has been playing with a bad elbow.
Dak Prescott isn't exacty Mr Consistent in big games. 49ers went from +850 to win it all to +1200 once they announced Jimmy G was out for the year. They are now tied with the Bengals for 5th choice. Their chances hinge on how Purdy plays when they get some game tape on him. I can see the 49ers hanging on to win the division and getting the #3 seed and entertaining the #6 Seahawks in the wild card round. No one is catching Dallas for the #4. The Giants and Commanders will fight it out for the #7 spot. Both teams don't have a single easy game, while Seattle gets the Rams and Panthers at home, that is why I give them the #6 seed.

We weren't gonna win it all with Jimmy either imo.

I have a feeling the Rams could claim him, just to keep him away from the 49ers.

I'm optimistic.
Without any reps w/the 1st team, Purdy came in and threw well and played w/poise. He stood in the pocket and didn't panic when the heat was on. Impressive!
Give him a week of 1st team reps, full emersion in the game plan and I feel the kid will really shine.
He won't be asked to carry the the offense - we'll run it over 40% of the time.
Short passing game and an occasional long pass.
I really like what I saw.

Baker time.
He'll definitely be a Niner
He's white, not Kaepernick and he's already failed at two starting gigs. Sure why not?
he's also currently better than Kap.
Only in your mind.
Oh it's my mind that's delusional lololol
Dude has the lowest QBR in the league...lol. No way to know who's better than who,....7 yrs removed or not.

Dallas can not be the #4 seed unless they win the division with the worst divisional winner record. The #4 seed will be the "winner" of the NFC South. The best they can be is the #5 seed as a WC. The top four seeds all go to division winners.
