I still think there has to be serious discussions about whether or not Trey could be healthy by the playoffs. I realize Kyle has shot that down, but find it hard to believe it's not a consideration behind the scenes.

It will carry us to the playoffs. We couldn't win the SB with JimmyG as our quarterback and he's an upgrade over Purdy. You'd have to be delusional to think we can go all the way with our 3rd string quarterback.
The difference in the fan base (particularly in this thread) is really about expectations. A lot of us that have following the team for decades feel that anything short of SB 6 is failure. It's the old EddieD mentality that second place is another way of saying 'loser'. It's compounded when you're fielding an epic defense and a loaded offense full of star power in their prime.
The other group (and I'm assuming they've been only following the team for the past 20 years or less), it's all about moral victories. As if making the playoffs and a first round exit makes this a successful season. Or the other thing I was hearing before the season began was this is all about Trey learning the ropes so trying to win a ring was irrelevant. My response to that is WTF ? How do you take a loaded team full of probowlers and tell them that this will be a mulligan season ?
Im sorry, but the CMC trade meant that Kyle and Co. were all in for the SB this year. And we lost both our starting QBs which in essence throws out that prospect. Yet we have fans that somehow wrap their brains around it's ok as long as the team tries hard and can keep Seattle out of the playoffs, then it's VICTORY. Yay !!!!
Because we believe that there's basically zero shot of winning a Superbowl without having THE GUY at quarterback. And Jimmy is not the guy. Regardless of how anyone feels about Lance. He might be a bust. He might not be. But I'd rather them develop an unknown with a small chance of hope at the end of the tunnel. Rather than roll with Jimmy when I KNOW we would never win with him.
We look at Jimmy and his terrible playoff performances and just shrug and say whatever. It is what it is. We don't have a great QB here. You can only go so far with running game and defense. Whether they get exposed early in the season, or in the playoffs against the Chiefs, Bills, and Eagles is just a matter of preference.
Name me a QB past or present who can perform at a high level in January with an injured throwing shoulder?
What was wrong with his shoulder in 19?
Not a damn thing

Agreed. But what if he reaches 100%? It's obviously a long shot, but Kyle did leave the door open, saying
"I haven't been told there's a chance, so I think things would have to be pretty drastic," Well, things are pretty drastic. I wouldn't consider it for a second if he wasn't 100%, but what if he is?

I'm guessing the bone break would be fine if that's all that was damaged. It's the two torn ankle ligaments that'll keep him shelved until OTA's at the earliest.

I think the team is good enough to get to the playoffs and beat a s**tty 1st round opponent.
To beat Dallas/Philly then KC/Buffalo type of team to win the whole thing seems near impossible unless it turns out Purdy has some magic. But even if he ends up being the greatest QB ever, he is still a rookie coming in halfway through his 1st year.
Even Montana/Brady/Elway//Marino/Young type of guys could not have done it in their rookie year.
To be clear, I am still firmly on the bandwagon as I have been for my entire life and will be behind them to the end, but my expectations definitely changed yesterday.

Honestly, Purdy is probably a better QB at this point than Lance right NOW, having more overall football experience and having a full season of scout-team reps... while Trey has been rehabbing all year.
Obviously, assuming we roll into 2023 with Lance and Purdy as QB1 and QB2, you go back to the plan of having Lance as the long-term starter, but as of right NOW, even if Trey can get medically cleared, Purdy gives us the best shot.

Bro his foot was 90 degrees pointing out. He ain't gonna be 100% to play NFL football this year.
