If Purdy takes the team on a deep playoff run, who does it say the most about?

The game is more mental in my opinion and what if no one knew because as a rookie no one can see/figure it out yet, Purdy has that mental edge and higher IQ than Trey Lance. Now that Purdy is getting his chances, everybody's starting to see. This is hypothetical but if it's true and Purdy keeps on winning leads us deep into the playoffs, he deserves to be in the starting QB conversation.

And you base this on what?

I said 'what if', a hypothetical statement. No basis, just came up with it.

Sorry. That sentence was worded poorly so I didn't understand that you were asking a question.

I saw a tweet that stated Lance has thrown over 250 yds once in his football career. And it was in High School. I thought to myself that couldn't be right.

Purdy has a ton of 300+ yard games, let alone 250+. So he has plenty of experience slanging the rock. It showed yesterday.

Also, doesn't hurt that he made the most of his practice reps going against the #1 defense, like Warner mentioned.

That was my exact reaction

To be honest, it is at least 3 of them. I would be more interested in discussing what actions the team should take during the off season re quarterbacks. And should we try to bring in a vet like Baker? Should Lynch try to bring back Garoppolo next year? With the injury he might struggle to get a good offer from a good team.

Baker as a backup...sure.

JG will likely be back next year on a reduced / backup level contract. I doubt he sees stellar offers next year given his recovery timeline (if he has a Lisfranc injury as alluded to by Papa).

Hopefully Purdy plays well enough down the stretch (may be a pipe dream) to secure the QB2 role next year.

I see Lance as qb1 next year.

If Purdy continues to play like yesterday, and takes the team deep into the playoffs eg NFCC game, he might leap Trey and become QB1. I think Purdy is the type of quarterback Kyle wants; a pocket passer that can escape the pressure just to buy time to find a receiver.

it's a very small sample, but he looked more NFL ready yesterday than Trey has in his limited snaps as starter. I'm hoping Purdy works out bc I don't buy the Trey hype at all…

The thing is, THAT is really the type of QB that Trey Lance is! Shanny even said something early on, that he was a pass first QB that then looked to make plays with his legs. He's much more Pat Mahommes than Lamar Jackson. But apparently Shanny got confused this year, because he suere was trying to play him like Lamar!

As far as the actual question, based on the one game we've really seen Purdy play, I'd say it shows more about him. I think most people had the feeling we could get close with Jimmy, but not all the way. But that we didn't need THAT much more than him to get there. I've not been the biggest Jimmy fan, and won't pretend that I have been just because he's been playing so well - but I have to say I think he was having his best year by far. He was drastically cutting down on the "Dumb Jimmy Plays", which had been my biggest problem with him. And looking at the Dolphins game, I saw teo VERY different QB's. Not Jimmy Vs Brock, but Tua "People talking about me being MVP" vs Brock. Tua was playing so scared. Just terrified of this defense. I don't know if I've ever seen a QB THAT scared before (OK...Maybe Nathan Peterman!) but Purdy was playing fearless - against a very good defense too. If he can keep that up, I think he can give us a good chance!

All he does was win in those games, so he didn't need to sling it more than 250+ yards. This argument worked for some.

If we make a playoff run it is going to be because of the D and nothing else. We will live or die with how good this D can be.

So nothing has changed. I feel much better.

Well unless Purdy comes out and starts throwing 3+ picks a game. If he can be an avg QB we will still be an above avg team if the D continues its onslaught.

He has a higher football IQ. No question about it. Just from playing a lot more games as a College player. Trey is so confused out there. Not as much with Purdy. Yeah he is further ahead in the mental aspect of the game. At least for now he is.

That's what she said

If we go deep into the playoffs it will be because of how talented this team is and how good of a coach Kyle Shanahan is. All Brock Purdy needs to do is not screw it up.

Yep. A rookie qb isn't winning a sb. We are lucky enough to have an insane defense and enough offensive weapons to make it interesting. They need a veteran.

He's really smart so that wouldn't be a surprise. Pretty sure he has a higher football IQ then Jimmy too.
It's going to be on the defense to win games and nothing has changed. Purdy has to just manage the game and not throw picks.

And yes, nothing would have changed with Jimmy either and I would have said the same thing. Beating up on bad teams like the Colt McCoy Cardinals team and putting up numbers this season was just a mirage. In the playoffs and against good opponents, you know deep down that it wouldn't have lasted that long.
