Who will be the 49ers starting QB in 2023?

I would say Trey Lance or Tom Brady. Most likely Trey.
Trey Lance 100%

0% anyone else.

A player like Tom Brady or Aaron Rodgers should not even be up for consideration.
Lance.

No way they sign Brady at 46/47 years old. I would actually stay away from Brady or Rodgers at this point. Any other than Trey Lance starting next season and I'd say they don't trust that Trey Lance can start or is healthy enough to start.
I'll wait to see how Purdy does with his opportunity before I make a decision.

I don't care about the shytload of picks we gave up for Lance, I will roll with whoever gives this team the best chance to win.
70% Trey
20% Purdy
5% JG
5% Other

Of course this is what I think are the odds right now. Could change with Purdy depending how well he does the rest of the year.

Unless, we see some sort of weird scenario where Jimmy G comes back ala Willis Reed, I think this is the answer.
I will vote Trey Lance because he's the most likely right now. But the next 1-2 months could easily change things.

Trey is the favorite, but I am not sure it is 100%. At this point, there are so many legitimate questions about his ability to stay healthy and whether he can progressed to a franchise QB. Kyle and John will have to make tough decision on what to do at QB next season for such a loaded roster.

i said when we drafted... Brock Purdy will be better than Trey Lance. I like the kid but he doesnt have "it" and Brock "big kokc" Purdy does

Clearly Purdy is more ready to play because of his experience.

This thing is, the NFL scouts and coaches clearly don't see Purdy to have the potential to grow into a FQB, whatever that reason is (arm strength, height, mobility, accurate, etc, probably combination of these)

Doesn't mean the scouts and coaches can't be wrong. But I think over the last decade or so, scouts and coaches have gotten better in evaluating QBs. There are less and less QB who weren't drafted in the first round grow into a FQB.

Not sure how many QBs who weren't drafted in the top 4 rounds in the last decade become a franchise QB. I can't even name one off of my head.

Was gonna say "Kurt warner!" but then I realized you said last decade and I'm just old.
Lance. UNLESS. Purdy leads this team to a Super Bowl Championship and looks positively great in doing so.

Then, Kyle Shanahan has a tough choice to make.

Most of those kind of guys aren't put in this unique situation. They usually only get to play on bad teams with a lame duck coach on a team that essentially is tanking.

They very rarely get the chance to compete in games that matters. At least not multiple games up to and including playoff games. So those guys don't get a legitimate chance.

It appears that Brock and Mike White are the two guys put in that position this year. They both have a chance to become that guy

I would say at that point its a pretty easy choice. Not sure what he would do with Lance, but maybe keep him on in case Purdy falters or gets injured. But I don't see how you replace Purdy if he gives you a Super Bowl and looks great. I think Lance would understand at that point.
