I am still trying to process what I witnessed yesterday. What all of us witnessed. At least one reporter has issued a story comparing this game to another game that Nick Mullens started. That was indeed a good game. But Mullens didn't look like this in that game. He did not look like Purdy. I saw Purdy make exactly one bad throw yesterday. One. It was a pass over the middle that he should not have thrown and it was picked off. Fortunately, for Purdy and the 49ers, a penalty wiped that play out.
It's still a tad early, imo, to declare this kid as "something special." It's only been two games. But it appears that Purdy has turned this team from possible Super Bowl contender to an absolute beast that cannot be stopped. I hope this ride continues. I really do. Because, if it does, we will all get to witness something very, very special. We will all see something that we, as 49er fans, will remember and talk about for the rest of our lives.
This wasn't just an average win. We've all been fortunate to witness those. No, it's not. Last week's game and yesterday's game are the type of contests that we will want to see again. The replay of this game on the NFL Network will be listed in the Calendar section of our smart phones. We will all want to see this again. We will all ask, did that realy happen?
We're not there yet. Fate is a fickle thing. But this could be a special season. For all of us.
I love this! Well written and yes, this was an incredible win. I know I will always remember it and wanna rewatch highlights for the millionth time.
Purdy is going to throw an INT at some point and hopefully it won't be a costly one. I can live with that as long as he keeps making big time throws that rtesult in TDs. I sat in the stands through all the Montana and Young years and believe me the fans moaned many times when one of them threw an INT. They had their fair share but they also made up for them with the big plays. That's how they won Super Bowls.
Football is a little like the stock market. You can play it safe and conservative and never really lose too much but you never gain a lot either. If you're willing to gamble you'll have days with big losses but the goal is to ultimately be a big winner, not just a survivor.
I hear you. I agree with you. It may just be me, but when I watch Purdy I see Montana against the New Orlean Saints. Game 14 of the 1980 season. Montana who? Who was this Joe kid? Why is this crazy kid slinging passes all over the field? What in the world am I watching here?
I will tell you what I watched on that day in 1980. I watched the birth of a legend. An absolute legend. I have never forgotten that game. It's been 42-years and I still will never forget it.
I get the same type of vibe from Purdy. He is slinging the ball all over the field. Completing passes that nobody in their right mind has any hope of completing.
Could I be wrong? Oh, YEAH! Have I been wrong? MOST OF THE TIME, YES! But, I'm telling you, I'm getting that vibe.
I completely agree with you. I see a young Montana in Purdy as well.
I think I felt it most as the first half came to a close. Purdy is moving the 49er offense. The TV pundits are claiming all he needs to do is not screw up, and the 49ers are in position for a field goal to end the half. And, then, BOOM! Purdy hits a WIDE OPEN Aiyuk for a TD. BOOM! 28-0 49ers. WHAT DID I JUST SEE???
I was shocked. I think my mouth was wide open. I couldn't believe it. There have been some good to great 49er QB's since Montana. And I don't want to get too excited because it's only been two games. But I have a feeling this kid could be something really, really special.
I told my son if that happened to Jimmy he would have never taken that shot - would have checked down or been sacked.
