Damn....

On one hand, this could get you a TD if Purdy is able to get a clean throw out in time. (Best-case scenario)
On the other hand... with the way the ball hung in the air, it could've been an interception. It could've been a sack that took us out of field goal range. It could've been a fumble. And if it ends up being an interception or fumble, who knows if there's a return. (Worst-case scenario)

Fortunately for us, the ball floated to Aiyuk, who was able to secure the pass and we had an opportunity to kick a game-winning field goal.

The point is that it's so hard to playcall in the NFL. Shanahan can get criticized or praised for being conservative/aggressive in these pivotal situations, but this is a great example of why it can be so difficult.
Just rewatched the condensed game. I came away feeling just as good about Purdy as I did in his earlier starts.

There were a few drops, a couple ill advised throws, and passes that could have ended differently. Kittle had a TD bounce off his chest, would have had to make a great catch to pull it in--but that's not beyond his skill level.

The underthrow to Kittle (right before Jennings jump ball) really looked like Brock was going back shoulder based on Brock's reaction after the pass (I could be wrong of course). Sucks because these two incompletions in a row really started some Purdy doubt. I normally wouldn't say anything about drops/incompletions/contested passes because the game is full of various outcomes that could go either way, but the Raiders were getting a lot of the jump balls in their favor so as a whole picture I'd like to think these would normalize out over time and wouldn't contribute to as critical shifts in game momentum/outcome.

A standout play to me was down by 10 in the 2nd half, 1st and twenty after a holding call and Purdy hits Jennings for 19. That completely erased the moment killer penalty. It felt like we always had the ability to move the sticks regardless of the situation. Ultimately we won because we put a ton of points on the board. CMC is a beast.
that play where jimmie ward calls out "reload!" and shifts inside and stuffs the run was freaking beautiful to see
Those Raiders receivers seem to catch EVERYTHING.

Plays like this are those once in a while luck type things that need to happen during a championship run. That play sums up the niners season and the raiders season. We got the juice right now and they don't.

If we go far and end up winning it all, that play may be looked at as the Greenlaw goal line stand. It really could have went either way but Aiyuk came down like an Angel from the heavens and snagged it.

He's lightyears better than Tony Romo.

You're nuts

Not nuts at all. I just like to enjoy my sanity.

Too many Madden wannabes out there and there'll simply never be another one.

Never thought Sanchez would be so good @ commentary.

I have a lot of raider homies. This was epitome of moral victory. Almost seems like they felt they won the game lol, all things considered.

Nahh, there are no moral victories in trash talking. Please remind them of that.

Why have replay if you can't use your brain and common sense? On no planet did Davante Adam's catch that ball on the drive to tie the game. Both arms are on the side of the ball and the ball is laying on the ground. Does he have a 3rd arm under the ball? That ball was 100% laying on the ground.

Like I said earlier you could see the stitched part or stripe of the football move while on the ground. They just showed it again on NFLN. f**k those refs hope they enjoy that envelope of cash they got for that game.

They also missed a holding penalty by the Raiders on that 76 yard TD pass play. They flagged the Niners for defensive holding but missed an obvious hold in the backfield by the Raiders that they showed on replay. That play should have been called back with offsetting penalties.

My comment on replays is we have more than ever. The games are constantly stopped to review everything from catches, to TDs, to targeting. All they do is make the games longer. They still don't always get the cals right. If it takes 2,3,5 minutes to review a play then it can't be overturned. Period. That was part of the original intent when they started doing this. If you need to look at a play from 6 different angles and run it in super slow motion then it should just stand as called. If thye show a replay on the big screen and it's an obvious blown call then overturn it. Football wasn't meant to be played with a micrometer.

Replay shouldn't be used to try and make an imperfect game perfect.

Still waiting for 1 penalty a game to be reviewable.

It works in basketball. It's time.

Yup. It works in hockey as well. Seen many goals taken off the board due to offside penalties that were initially missed.

Whatever they do they need to review the review process because it's taking away from the flow of the game. I've seen way too many reviews that are obvious on the first view and on the scoreboard and they still take 2-3 minutes to make a decision. It's bad enough for fans at home but at least we can change the channel while they're screwing around. Fans at the game are stuck sitting there. You get 5-7 reviews per game and that's an extra 15-20 minutes they are adding. The advertisers love it though.

The longer they take on a review the more paid ads they can fit into the game.

I mean, I hate the game breaks... but I'd rather have them review things and get it right.
But it does strike me as odd that it can take so much time to review a play. Most plays, I can watch it and determine instantly whether it should be reversed or not.

And I'm not saying that to toot my own horn, but more to point out that Instant Reply is to overturn clear and OBVIOUS mistakes. If it's not indisputable, you go with whatever was the call on the field.
