If you look at the final rankings, the Eagles are right there with the Niners on opponents strength of schedule. Many of the top teams ended up having a weak SOS.

Could it be the reason their schedule was so weak is they beat all the teams in their division. All those losses make the schedule look weaker.

The Rams fell apart and the Cards imploded so that played a role in the weak schedule. I do think the 49ers played a rather soft schedule, partly due to the division. The AFC West also wasn't as strong as they were projected to be with DEN and LVR not playing up to their potential, and LAC always having key injuries. Not the 49ers fault, so oh well.

This sort of stuff is too simplistic of a take and lacks context. Miami was the hottest team in the league at 8-3, Tampa Bay and Washington had top defenses when we played them and both needed to win games to make the playoffs, and Seattle was considered a top offense. You really need to look at where these teams were at in the season. At the time we played them, 4 of the final 6 opponents were playoff teams.

All of the good teams with a few exceptions were in the AFC this year. Not our fault.

It's not as simple for some. My wife is from Seattle, so there will be a lot smack talking after the game. Hoping I'm the one doing the smack talk.

You married a Seattle fan? j/k

Some of us take "screw seattle fans" literally

GREAT ARTICLE BOYS!

Awesome!

And holy crap about this nugget.

The 49ers' rushing attack, which ranked No. 26 in defense-adjusted value over average (DVOA) before McCaffrey's arrival, has ranked No. 3 in DVOA since then.

love the locker room tidbits, great read!

My wife was a Cowboys fan when we met, but I converted her.

Teams were doing well until they played us. 15-0 the week after playing us. Unless you were in the AFC you likely didn't play a lot of top five teams and the same can be said for PHI. That's why I'm glad we had two teams from our division in the playoffs so they can give that weak division BS

My big problem in this matchup is the NFL's fetish for Underdog story lines. Will know in the first 10 minutes based on how many whistles the ref gives them. I'm a little nervous even though on paper it's a Wipeout.

If you're in to conspiracy theories, I'd say we've got a way more interesting underdog story with Mr. Irrelevant in the playoffs... so much so, that I think we could get favorable calls all the way to #6.
