SF 49ERS vs Seahawks Pregame thread - 2022 Wild Card Round

Per ESPN:
What to know for officiating: Referee Alex Kemp's regular-season crew threw the most flags per game in the NFL (15.1), although it ranked in the middle of crews for flags that can be thrown by the referee himself: offensive holding (No. 5) and roughing the passer (tied for No. 13). The San Francisco defensive front drew only 12 offensive holding penalties all season, second fewest in the NFL, but its offensive line tied for the league's fifth-most committed (23). The Seahawks tied for the NFL's third-most false-start penalties. -- Seifert

First of all, not all the Niner playoff games in the 80s were played in downpours and high winds. I know because I was there for every single one that was played at the Stick. We were able to tailgate without getting soaked. Most home games had decent weather. The field was often in bad shape because of poor drainage. Because it was built on landfill the field was always soft and marshy. It was a constant problem for the groundskeepers.

Bad weather doesn't help the more talented team. If anything, it takes away from the team speed and it can take away from the passing game if the winds get to high. The Niners have a good running game and a string defense so they should still be okay. I hope the bad weather doesn't keep the fans away or drive them inside to one of the clubs at the stadium. The players like t see the stands full.

You'll notice I said "SOME." And I didn't see any 49er fans driven away by inclement weather.

I don't really remember any particular playoff game being a weather problem. Certainly nothing really memorable. There was one against the Rams but it wasn't terrible. There were games where the weather was cold and damp but not terrible. They also played a couple of playoff road games in really cold weather and they did fine. Like I said, it makes no difference since they are going to play no matter how bad it gets.

On a side note, Hiway49 said something about the 49ers scheduling games based on tides. Not true. All day games started at the same time. Those times are locked in by the networks and the league. teams can't start a game at say 2:37 in the afternoon because of the tides.
I have a feeling Geno will try and pick up chunks with his legs, a lot, tomorrow. When he takes off and runs, it has usually gone well for the Hawks this last stretch. I guess i'm more worried about his legs than his arm, considering SF's problems covering a running QB. Maybe Greenlaw spies him
there was a playoff game in the early 1990s at the Stick that was wet and soupy, forget which one it was but we lost
i've been eating a ton of CBD gummies to keep my anxiety in check. is it gameday yet?

Only game that fits the bill here, if even, is the 92 nfccg when the eventual superbowl champ cowboys came into town and whooped our asses admist some light rain. Aikman threw for 300+ and ole Emmitt rushed for 100+.

Tomorrow, hang in there. Be careful with the gummies, too much is bad for you.

I can't believe how may talking heads this week are STILL perpetuating the myth that "It's tough to beat a team 3 times in a season". That myth was debunked YEARS ago.

"there have been 21 instances where a team swept a team in the regular season and then had a third battle in the playoffs. The sweeping team has gone 14-7 in those games,"
https://www.footballperspective.com/how-hard-is-it-to-beat-a-team-three-times-in-one-season/

This should be pinned somewhere.
2-1 odds is not that great

The point is that the whole thing is a MYTH. "It's tough to beat a team 3 times in a season" ISN'T TRUE. The sweeping team wins 2 out of 3 times. Probably because the sweeping team is better. Like tomorrow

And, Trey's first start.

And when we had the ball it seemed to rain much heavier than when they had it! Talk about lucky
