Lower seeds go Monday to give the top seed the advantage of facing the winner off a short week
Same reason we as the two seed got SEA off a short week for a Saturday contest
Jaguars 4 seed. Chargers 5 seed. = Saturday game.
Bucs 4 seed. Cowboys 5 seed. = MNF.
Make it make sense?
It's ratings. There's no science to it. It's why they kept the Dallas Indy game on Sunday night football a few weeks ago and kept the Niners Dolphins game at 4pm despite our game being a MUCH BETTER match to watch.
The NFL is all about making money and a Cowboys Brady matchup is the easiest draw for high ratings and $$$. Unfortunately disadvantage to the winner of that game because they will only have 6 days to prep for the division matchup…
That seems like a terrible disadvantage. It's really unfair. I guess it is all ratings. IMO it should be a reward system. Like 2 seed gets the Saturday game. Like we got this year by chance apparently. But we should deserve at. Because as a #2 we earned the right to 8 days rest should we win. I think you should have some advantage for that. Disadvantage for the lower seed. 6 days to rest. It should be earned and deserved if they are going to do it. But I generally feel MNF is an awful idea for the playoffs. Just so unfair.
Last year it was a #4 and #5 NFC as well. Surprised it wasn't an AFC game this year.
It's likely all ratings.

It's looking rain will be worse in the 2nd half.

Start of the 2nd half may still be dry, but no guarantee after that

You sort of have a point. Get a lead early in the good weather. Play defense late when you are in the slop. For this game only. Generally receiving the 2nd half kickoff is great and what you want.

Yea typically I would want to defer but I think there's potential for heavy rain in the 2nd half and would prefer to have a 1st half lead.

Regardless of the outcome of today's game, I want to thank the coaches, players, and all the staff for such an interesting and fun season. So much good stuff revealed this season. Thanks niners, and go kick some ass today!
