OK, now I have really gone down the rabbit hole for this bet... by betting on the moneyline, this guy is actually setting himself to break even or win big no matter what:
Scenario 1: Sells 1,000 mattresses at $2,000ea ($2,000,000 gross, lets say $700,000 profit to make numbers easy) Cowboys win game straight up, he gets paid out $2,700,000 winnings from his bet and pays everyone back, $2,000,000 has $700,000 leftover which were equal to his profits before. Net $0
Scenario 2: Sells 1,000 mattresses at $2,000 ea ($2,000,000 gross, lets say $700,000 profit to make numbers easy) Cowboys lose game, he gets $2,000,000 in sales but lost $2,000,000 from his bet, but still made a $700,000 profit on sales.
Scenario 3: Sells 1,000 mattresses at $2,000 ea ($2,000,000 gross, lets say $700,000 profit to make numbers easy), Cowboys lose by 3, he gets paid out $2,700,000 winnings from his bet ($700,000 in winnings) and sold $2,000,000 in mattresses profiting $700,000 meaning he makes $1,400,000 net.
Interesting... he's basically getting free advertising to move a bunch of mattresses with no risk or high reward.
Yeah it's a cool strat imo I gotta respect him.
Moves mattresses, gets a ton of publicity. Furthermore, in the local market he's a hero cuz he champions the local teams. Some companies have to pay to come up with an ad campaign this dude just places a bet and it's done lol.
plus the 3rd option is actually number 2 as you said betting on the ML
If he wins the bet or moves a ton of mattresses really it doesn't matter.. every company has ad / marketing expense. We are talking about some mattress salesman in Texas. He already won. He got his name and brand out there. If he doesn't cash out he writes it off as a biz expense.
