When at QB gets selected to the HOF they put an emphasis on the win loss record as well as statistics.

Thank you for bringing up HOF,...because you gave me a layup to further the point.

Notice you didn't mention anything about the selection process, btw, but rather, what gets mentioned "once selected."

The only emphasis that matters is included in the selection process. And believing that their teams W/L record is some huge deciding factor equal to or beyond the way they played and how successful they were on the field is a fairytale.

Proof (if we're talking details from the horse's mouth) is right from their website, here:

The only restriction is that a player and coach must have been retired at least five years before he can be considered. There is no mandatory retirement period for a contributor before he may be considered. Every nomination of an eligible candidate received will be processed and forwarded to the Hall of Fame's Selection Committee.

Each year, the Selection Committee will be polled three times before the Final List of Modern-Era Player Nominees is determined. That Initial Preliminary List of nominations is compiled and sent to the Hall of Fame's Selection Committee by March 1. The list is provided so that the Selectors can study the nominees and then request the addition of any other candidates that may have been overlooked.

And away from their website, per Bleacher Report:

The words Hall of Famer and Hall-of-Fame-caliber are thrown around a lot in the NFL.

But just what do they actually mean? What defines a Hall of Famer?

Well, as you might expect, a variety of things do. There isn't just one quality that makes a player worthy of the Hall of Fame.

In fact, there are four qualities: Peak, longevity, impact by position and total value.

Let's break down each of the four qualifications.....

.......A short, but peak-filled career won't offer as much total value, and the same applies to a long career that lacked a peak. A Hall of Fame player needs both.

There are no incomplete Hall of Famers. A Hall of Famer is someone who played a long time, had a high peak, was elite at his position and added a ton of value throughout his career.

One of the four isn't good enough. Two of the four isn't good enough. Even three of the four isn't good enough (though some leeway is granted for position). All four are required for entrance.

This is why we see so few players make the Hall of Fame. Even someone like Cris Carter—by all accounts an elite player—still hasn't made the Hall after being eligible for five years.

While other sports' Halls of Fames have become diluted, the NFL's has remained strong because of these criteria.

Notice that they mentioned impact by position instead of the W/L outcome of their respective teams.

THIS IS IMPACT: Taking a team seen as a 1-15 team and making them 7-9 (+6) is having a heavy, heavy impact @ the QB position compared to another QB taking an 11-5 team and making them 13-3 (+2).

In this scenario, year after year, one guy's team can compile a great W/L record,...while the player with the 7-9 team is having 3 times the impact on the actual outcomes of NFL football games.

In made up scenario, the 7-9 loser is TWICE the candidate that the 13-3 guy,..and you then evaluate the other 3 areas that are required.

Lol but glancing @ a W/L record is NOT studying a candidate, as the HOF mandates. I know you are only talking about what you see on tv and posted on websites for "average fans",...the real criteria for HOF selection, I guarantee you, does not come down to the W/L record of their teams. Remember, no individual players have W/L records anyway.

In boxing or tennis? Sure. But those are individual sports.
