I am whiplash mess. one minute i think we are going to crush them - the next I am not so sure.
This is going to be a very hard game to win.
But i also thought last years trip to GB was a near impossible game with the cold and it turned out to be legendary.

That's probably going to be case. Brock will have to beat PHI.
Probably. I just find it funny that posters think that's what we need. Yea lets just play hurts like Kap who had 370 yds of offense, 2 TDs, and put up 30 pts in the SB. Sounds good to me
Oh come on. Did you watch that game ? The Ravens game plan threw us out of our comfort zone. We were forced to play a traditional type offense relying on a run game and Kaep's arm. The difference was that our offense had a lot more star power than the Eagles offense does. We had Gore, Vernon Davis, Randy Moss, and Crabtree along with the best oline on the league so Kaep could play catch up.
I think if you eliminate Hurts the Eagles are not that formidable bc their only real threat IMO is AJ Brown.
Dallas Goedert is a sneaky good TE. And Devonta Smith is a beast. Their RB's are hit and miss. Sometimes Miles Sanders tears it up. Sometimes hes non-existent.
You have to do the leg work but it would be easy to do the research on espn.com.

Looking like low 50's and cloudy. Guess that's similar to SF this time of year?

Oops, you got me. Prepare for the parade! Um, maybe Jalen has grow up; matured a bit?? He's playing with 2 future Hall of Fame linemen and three players who've already won a Superbowl. Is it fair to consider that being surrounded by people like that may have an effect on Jalen? His growth as a man in just one year is astounding. He's the complete package.
Why do you think the eagles performed so poorly in so many games against lackluster opponents? They are a great team no doubt but why did they suck so many times?
They went 14-3 and had the biggest point differential in the NFL. Not sure where you're getting your information but it's faulty. This has been one of the greatest seasons in team history.
Ummm nope
Just check ESPN. Its a small website. Pretty reputable tho.
Congrats on the one of the greatest seasons in Team history.
It does stink that decided to speak just to speak and didnt check your facts. FWIW Philly isn't even second in this statistic. Niners Buffalo then Philly. Please stop just making stuff up to try and sound smart.
Congrats on making it to this game and it will all be settled on the field as we really have no control of the game.
I wasn't making it up and I acknowledged the mistake when I was corrected.
He doesn't speak for all niner fans. If you go by the eye test, Philly was a phenomenal team this year. I've been thinking since about week 9 or 10 how the hell the Niners can beat the Eagles. It certainly can be done as well as the other way around. Jalen leveled up for sure. Is he a big game QB? We'll see. Same with Brock Purdy. Luckily Hurts has home field to help support him.
As another WebZoner said, and I agree, the Eagles team reminds me of the '85 bears and their defense. We beat them in '84, but they were unstoppable in '85.

Welp, whatever happens, Kyle is going to need more than 19 points. 24-27 with the Eagles O.
We will find out Sunday!!! It could be a game that ends 6-3 or 34-31? Either way I will be looking forward to a good game. May the best team win "49ers" and no injuries. Go Niners!!!!

Right now, at least our traded first round picks are looking like nearly second round picks. 😈.
i really hope we show the world that we are serious about winning it all. I think Purdy has to have a really good game, which is a tall task, but I feel he is up to it. Losing to hurts in college will give him that extra edge /m- coupled with being the first rookie to make the superbowl

Just my opinion, of course, but I think this time (versus college) Purdy has the better team talent and coach. If all things go extremely well, this could be a blowout.

I don't think we'll "crush" them, but I do see us winning another close contested battle.
I'm hoping to see another 9er - Bengals super bowl.

Now that he has seen extreme pressure (Dallas D) He has to show that he can adjust to big time pressure.
Just the next step in his evolution.
I believe in him.

My position since watching PHI's game vs. NYG is that we're in for a long game and will be the underdogs. But our team (defense, run game, coaching) should travel, so it'll be a toss-up/slight advantage PHI.

Run, ball control, run again, ball control, run again again, ball control, slant to whoever, run, ball control, run again…
I think you get the point! And use fu**en Mitchell before the 3rd quarter!!!
Long bully drives, negates pass rush(their strong point), keeps Philly offense off the field (their strong point) and takes pressure off Purdy!
Get back to what we do best, stop running CMC up the middle, get creative with him. Kyle is having an identity crisis, because he finally has a qb that can stretch the field more than 10 yards, and creates off schedule. But our best passing games are when we establish run first!!
If we get behind against this team, which is very possible the way we have started games lately, we could be in serious trouble against their pass rush!!
If Hurts is able to get first downs on 3rd and long with his legs, still have PTSD from the number of times we lost games to Wilson because of this one problem!!
However, if the Niners play ball control bully ball, mixed in with chunk yardage play action, we will be a bigger problem for them!!
And the coin toss is big too, seems like when we get to defer, we play better..lol
Alot of if's…LFG!!!!!!

Anyway I hope to see a great game this weekend. Go 49ers!!!!!

I would say not even the 49ers defense this year should be compared to the 85 Bears.
85 Bears gave up 211 first downs and 22 touchdowns with 54 take aways.
22 49ers gave up 262 first downs and 31 touchdowns with 30 take aways.
22 Philly gave up 301 first downs and 37 touchdowns with 27 takeaways.
The 85 Bears were a different animal altogether they were twice as likely to cause a turnover then for you to score on them.
Even if you adjust for the extra game the Bears were special
Bears 13.1 first downs a game and 1.37 tds with 3.37 takeaways per-game.
49ers 15.4 first downs a game and 1.8 tds with 1.7 takeaways per-game.
Philly 17.7 first downs a game and 2.2 tds with 1.5 takeaways per-game.
We don't need to be comparing anyone to that Bears defense. Hell if the Bears could out right fight with WRs 10 yards down the field like DBs can today and be able to just lay you out to break up passes like they could nobody might have scored on them.
Agree, its tough to field a defense like the '84-'85 Bears nowadays with the cap and free agency doing so much damage to team depth. The '85 bear defense was a very deep and talented bunch, and their run offense complemented their defense and special teams. It was another era in the NFL when players can actually hit versus today which is (in a sense) like basketball or flag football.
As for the 2022 49er and Eagle defenses, they are very similar. They essentially are nickle defenses that excell in pressuring the passer and covering the recievers. Gone are the days that WRs fear going over the middle. Nowadays those types of slobberknocker hits result in first downs or 15 yard personal fouls.
If I was to redesign the 49er defense, it would be more along the line of the Eagles defense. Strong DLine and DB corps, and a decent-to-good LB corps. Our defense is outstanding DLine, Outstanding LBs, but decent-to-good DBs. One reason is our high scoring offense.
I predict Purdy, next year, will be throwing for 300 yards a game and scoring, on average, in the mid to high 30''s and opposing teams will have to pass to catch up to the 49ers next year. They won't be running much against us next year, so I'll put less resources on the LB squad and more on the DLine and DB squad. Just my thoughts.

The biggest mismatch in this game is our Run game against their Run D.
if we run the ball and keep Hurts off the field we have a great chance of winning.
I expect more from Deebo this game….. Niners by 7 again.

Joe Flacco - Loss to Ben Roethlisberger
All great QB's who were already Super Bowl Champions except Kurt Warner, but we all know how his season ended in '99, NFL MVP (41 TD passes) and Super Bowl Champion.
What does this all have to do with Brock Purdy, well Jalen Hurts is neither, a Super Bowl Champion or a NFL MVP like Kurt Warner. And just like Purdy, Hurts is starting his first NFCC. With that said, even though Purdy is a rookie, I think the playing ground is pretty much even this time.

That Philadelphia stadium is going to loud, very loud and raucous so Purdy and our offensive line gotta be ready for that. I suspect that the coaching staff is working on that in practice and game preparation overall and they will have installed more silent counts, hand signals, with more automatic pre-snap and motion reads. Overall though, I don't a lot of changes in the game plan when compared to the Dallas contest.
BTW, does anyone know if head coach Shanahan call's the offensive play directly to the QB from the sideline, or does he call it through the coaches upstairs and they then relay it to the QB ? I wouldn't think so, but just wondering.

Kyle calls the plays directly into the QB's helmet.
