Hello all, Eagles fan here. Just wanted to stop by and talk about the game.

Short story 1st - Growing up the 49ers were my 2nd favorite team. I have a NFL films VHS from the 1988-89 season that I would play on repeat when I was a kid. 49ers of course won that year and I became of huge fan, only seconded by my love for the Eagles. Had both Eagles and 49ers pillows on my bed growing up.

Now back to the game - Really curious how this game plays out. If the Eagles get a lead early, not sure the 49ers can keep pace as they will be forced out of their comfort zone on offense. However, if the game stays close into the 3rd qtr it will be anyone's game. Eagles like the get up early in games and then just run the ball down the throat of the opposing team in the 2nd half. We will really see how good this Eagles offense is come Sunday, matched up against the best defense in the NFL in the 49ers.

As far as the 49ers on offense. I keep reading that the Eagles run defense is suspect and the stats seem to back that up when you look at the full season. However, I pulled the from The Athletic this morning. The additions of Joseph, Suh, and getting Davis back from injury have appears to solve the running defense to an extent. IMO this game may come down to Brock Purdy making the throws in the 2nd half to win the game. If he can he can stretch the field and not take the key sacks, 49ers have a very good chance of winning this game.

One note on the Eagles' run defense: Things changed significantly after the team signed Linval Joseph in the aftermath of its loss to Washington in Week 10 when Jordan Davis was on injured reserve. The Eagles' splits from Weeks 1-10 and since Week 11, including the playoffs, are stark. Before Joseph, they had a defensive success rate of 54.8 percent on runs and a defensive EPA (expected points added) per rush of -0.07. Over the course of a full season, that would be good for 32nd in the league and 31st, respectively. Post-Joseph, they have a defensive success rate of 65.4 percent against runs and a defensive EPA per rush of 0.13. Those would be good for second and third in the league, respectively, over the course of a full season. I think Jonathan Gannon will be more concerned with surrendering explosive plays against play-action over the middle of the field than Christian McCaffrey and Elijah Mitchell running on them all afternoon.

Tbh, this is the true superbowl. These teams are built so complete that whoever gets out of this wins the superbowl imo

Bengals and chiefs of course have insane QBs but both have flaws that both Philly and us match up well against, plus Mahomes is a little banged up.

If defense is locked in and allow under 20 points, we win this. Eagles have a good defense for sure, but not as good as Dallas, and Purdy handled that solid all things considered.

I know your defense is really good. I would be shocked if you held us under 20 points. I think the RPO causes confusion on defense. Hurts is a master at it. But you do have the best linebackers in the game. Werner is that dude. But we can get behind your linebackers with AJ brown and Smith. Only thing Dallas has better on defense is linebackers. We don't have Micah Parsons but we have Hassan Reddick with 17 and half sacks. 5 forced fumbles. He's a game wrecker and very hard to block. Our d line is much better. Secondary is much better. Especially with CGJ back and hopefully Maddox back this week our slot corner. It's been along time since we had our secondary in full. When we had everyone in place we was leading the league in interceptions and turnovers. CGJ had 6 interceptions when he got hurt. We finally got him back. But maddox been out.

Sup Efan. All good points. Comes down to which Birds team shows up. I do feel the Eagles at their best will beat the 49ers at their best but you never know how it will play out until in plays out. One point I made previously that gives me hope; the Niners, at home with almost 2 days addl rest, scored under 20 points against Dallas. I'm highly confident the Eagles will score more than 20, so the Niners will need to do better against our sack happy defense, a tough task for sure. The 49ers are a force and the hottest team in football but I feel fairly confident that we'll pull off the win in what should be a nail biter. Are you from Philly? If so, what area? I grew up in the NE.

I do not think the 1+1=2 argument applies here. That is "The Niners scored 19 at home against Dallas. We scored more than that against Dallas. So that means we will outscore the Niners." The Niners beat Washington and you guys lost to Washington. I'm not going to use that as a benchmark for this game. You are an intelligent fan and know as well as any that every game plan is different for every opponent. The Niners weathered a STORM in Dallas. They wanted to win so bad and not be knocked out of the playoffs two years in a row by the same team. We got the best defensive version of Dallas as they could bring. I think, defensively, that was the worst of it for the Niners.

The Eagles present other problems on defense, but there's no Dan Quinn leading them. There's no familiarity. I think the Eagles will get a couple sacks and possibly a pick, but there will be more holes. More leniency for the Niners offense this week. Shanahan will have a completely different gameplan. I thought the Niners first half gameplan against Dallas was trash. Seemed like we wanted to throw every play and that did not work. I think Kyle will learn from that game and go back to his bread and butter, the run game. I will be shocked if CMC and Deebo are held to those numbers again. Again, I think the Niners offense faced their toughest task already. I think the Niners defense will face its toughest task against the Eagles. Eagles O and Niners D will determine the outcome of this game.

As you said, Eagles like to get ahead early and run out the clock in the 2nd half. That leaves offenses passing the ball a lot more in the 2nd half. Which means they are forced to abandon their run game early. The 49ers have the #1 scoring defense, the #2 run defense and according to PFF the #1 coverage defense in the NFL. I don't see the Eagles jumping out to a big lead in this game as the 49ers are not the Giants.

In the last 8 games the Eagles defense has allowed an average of 4.9 YPC.

GB- 5.0 YPC
TEN- 4.1 YPC
NYG- 5.1 YPC
CHI- 5.2 YPC
DAL- 3.7 YPC
NO- 3.7 YPC
NYG- 6.1 YPC
NYG- 5.9 YPC

Like I said, none of those teams have the defense that the 49ers have so jumping out to a big lead early to force us away from the running game is highly unlikely.

Lol at Eagles fans thinking their team is the underdog based off the media

according to ESPN they should win 38-13 😂

But remembr, you only put 19 points on the Cowboys. We scored way more than that on them. If you can't stop Hurts, it's going to be a long day for the 9ers. The Linc will be rocking for sure. I can't wait. I'll be down there tailgating and watching the game at Xfinity Live. It's going to be an awesome day.

You scored way more than 19… in a pretty recent LOSS to the Cowboys. If your argument is that you make better losers than the 49ers I'm willing to entertain it.

Keep seeing the argument of we put up 19 vs Cowboys and the eagles put up more so that means Eagles are better.

Well Eagles put up 24 and 21 points against Washington. We put up 37.

It's all pointless.
How much have they gotten better since last year, roster wise?

Additions this year:

49ers - CMC

eagles - AJ Brown

Yeah but have pity the overall intelligence level of opposing fan bases tends to be a lot lower than ours.

The argument is valid because it was the last game you played and on the biggest stage at that point in the season. But I also agree that you can throw most arguments out the window. I do think the offenses will bow to the defenses and the score will be held in check for the most part.

It doesn't matter but what does matter is they better be on their A game Sunday. It just feels like this year it was written in the stars. I think we are going to the big dance.

I think Eagles fans are a little bit nervous about this game which is why you see an uptick of them posting in here this week.
I gave up trying to predict how a game will play out a long time ago. Every time I thought it would be high scoring it ended up being low scoring and visa versa. Coaches game plan for how they expect the game to go but often need to adjust at halftime. I mean how could you expect to be behind by 20 points of more at halftime. Early turnovers, a big penalty or an injury to a key player can change everything. One of the best skills a coach can have is the ability to adjust rapidly before a game gets out of hand.
