I don't like the idea of Bosa matching Hurts if it's a keeper. I'd prefer the 49ers stick to the aggressive nature of the wide 9 and have Bosa play the dive/A gap while the LBs scrape over. I feel real good about Fred and Dre running down Hurts and getting their licks on him.

They'll probably adjust the strategy when Philly has a winged blocker to counter the split zone stuff with a ton of line movement(ie slants/gap exnchanges with DBs).

I agree with this 100%. Let's not go crazy trying to stop Hurts from running. Stay aggressive with the DL, stop their RB from getting chunk plays, punish Hurts with Warner and Greenlaw. Need Warner to have a game like he did against Dallas.

^^ In that TD run, #54 was the spy and he still got burnt. Luckily our #54 is better.

That's a horrible angle; at the LoS he had to reverse direction.

Hurts is not 100% healthy. I believe he is still dealing with that shoulder. I wonder how many designed runs we will actually see from him? How many did he have in the divisional round?

He ran last week. The 49ers should expect him to run this Sunday.

..

I heard people say he looked like he was nervous to get hit by the way he was turning into contact after his injury. Im hoping the 49ers can put a beating on him and really throw his game off.

I can't stand running qbs. Hurts was already...well...hurt. That style doesn't last. Ask Kyler, Trey, Wussel, and even Lamar.

Might have to spy more than one if that's a main part of their offense.

Zone up and force him to do things like use eyes to move defenders and anticipating windows into the zone coverages. This should play into what the 49ers already prefer to do.
I agree with the DTs needing to have a good game holding their ground versus the PHI inside zone run game to keep the LBs free to flow to the ball and clog rushing lanes. CBs must tackle well on those quick passes from the RPOs.
I agree no man coverage Hurts will have a field day running the ball, use man only when needed and it makes sense
I say play Quarters and keep everything underneath and let Fred and the boys mop up underneath with crushing tackles, mix in some post snap rotation to single high every so often to mess with Michael Jackson along with some zone blitzes.
Put a hit on him as often as possible, he has to have the dirtiest uniform on the field when its over
I have confidence in our front 7 to handle their running game

In week 6 against the Cowboys, Hurts was sacked 4 imes and completed only 1 pass over 10 yards in the air. That pass was to a wide-open Devonta Smith in the endzone for a 7 yd TD.

The bolded is so key. Be zone dominant while disguising if the 49ers are able to get PHI into '3rd & pass it'. Force Hurts to process post snap and be ready for when he scrambles. PHI will use RPOs to punish zone coverage on 1st and 2nd down, but that's where Warner Greenlaw and JWard come into play. They must line up in the correct spots, with proper spacing, and tackle well. Be in two high safeties presnap to discourage the deep sideline throws because when Hurts sees 1v1 on the outside, he'll take it.

I'd like to see these numbers when playing teams with good pass rushers.

do you think the wide 9 would not be the most optimal formation to be utilized here for the line?

they have to be able to collapse the pocket; not be no holds barred around the edge
always enjoy Matt's objective analysis

Regarding run defense, with how well PHI runs inside zone, I'd say wide9 is not the ideal alignment to be in. AA is good but the other DT position is okay at best at stopping the run (Kinlaw, Givens, McGill). DJJones held his ground well versus combo blocks, which is what inside zone uses to move DTs off the line. The wide9s weakness is interior runs since the DTs are spaced further apart.
Pass rush wise, wide9 is good to contain the QB assuming the DEs are disciplined and don't get too far upfield.

You watch the 49ers, what do you think using your eyes? You think he's one of the worst players in the league when it comes to defending the run? I don't.

Idiot on that program got all excited thinking they had a scoop and didn't bother to double check? A sorting error as you suggested seems most likely. According to this article from Jan 3rd Bosa was the #2 rated PFF run defender.
