How will we stop Hurts…esp runs up the gut.

49ers are notoriously bad against mobile QBs…Kyler Murray, RW when with SEA, and so on. What are our plans for Hurts on Sun when he "takes off" ?

Traditionally, a spy, eg, MLB, stays put to key on QB if he decides to run. That's fine right up until the opponents run 2 receivers right across the middle and MLB has to take one. Bingo, there goes Hurts.

So, what exactly are our plans to stop Hurts from racking up the yards on runs between tackles, or when our DBs have good coverage , nobody is open and Hurts takes off? Against the NYG, he ran 9 times all up the middle. They had no answer for Hurts. What is our plan for him?

Mods if you have a.better place for this, please put it there. Thx.

I guess we could put Talanoa on Hurts, but then who takes out the EAgles best WR?

We have the #1 d.. many years that will not be the case, this year it is the case. Which is why when I see ppl worried about our D.. we have less to worry about than all other teams. Any other team would trade places with us. That said our D is not invincible. However we don't need to stop Hurts. We simply need to outscore Hurts. BP may have to do some pew pew pew here
You hit him hard when he tries to be a running back, and with his bum shoulder, he may decide to scale it back after some really hard hits.
They should be able to contain Hurts mobility and running. They have had Russell Wilson and Kyler Murray twice a year for the last few years.
When we get knocked down we smile at you and on the way up we are gonna bite off a kneecap
There is another thing, also. Hurts did miss a couple games , IIRC, with the shoulder, and when he comes back …wallah….he's running between tackles again. Man that seems awful shortsighted on part of Eagles, but so far , so good. Maybe it's because we have seen so much injury at QB here in last 6y yrs that having Hurts run seems utterly risky, health wise.

Yet that is a big part of the Eagles game plans, Hurts takes a look and if nobody open , he takes off. (Seems like we've have a couple QBs like that in the past). Nonetheless altho dangerous, it IS part of the Philly game plan. We have to have a way to stop it. But How??
pass rushers have to be disciplined and maintain their passing lane and collapse the pocket around him... can't just rush like a bat out of hell, when he climbs the pocket to try and squirt through they need to slide off their blocker and tackle... means a little slower pass rush but that is the way to do it imo
I don't think you can stop Jalen Hurts from taking off. Nor do I believe Jalen's explosiveness can be contained. The key will be limiting his chances to do so. How do you limit those chances? Ground and pound. All game long. Same plan the 49ers used to stop Dak and the Dallas attack.

It wasn't extraordinarily effective in the first half. But those two final second half drives, one of which resulted in a TD and the second of which added another field goal, were things of absolute beauty.

Bottom line? Jalen will get his chances. He will get his yards. The hope is he won't get enough of them.

This reminds one of the way we ultimately took on Kyler in AZ. #97 rushed ,then halted, then very carefully contained Kyler from getting loose outside. When either DE bulled straight ahead, Kyler just ran around them. With Jalen it's a bit different in that he waits on WRs, and if none open generally heads to where the MLB had been.

You shut down the eagles run game and take away A.J. Brown. I wouldn't worry about Hurts legs unless they reach the redzone.

He's Michael Jordan. Can't be stopped. Not sure if we should even get on the plane.
