In an era where teams attempt more and more passes every game, and with a record number of QBs starting this year, rosters in general need to be expanded. This is just one element.

However, who the hell would have been the 5th string QB in the emergency 3rd role for the 49ers? Some situations just can't be accounted for, and 5th level QB depth is absolutely one of those.

Many teams don't even carry three QBs. So I'd say no. I hope it was just a super freak thing with Brock and Trey and it's behind us. We have to get some consistency at QB or we are never going to win a SB. Sick of the revolving door QBs.
Not having Kap or Tebow on speed dial just in case Guess we should have 4 qbs plus 3 or 4 backups of those. Then a couple more backups of those..& maybe a few more

Would rather have Jimmy or Lance with broken feet than either of those two who do not know the playbook.
because of young cheap QB the window will be open longer - talent around will come and go but the main thing is finding a QB who will survive in this system. The injuries can happen as QBs wait for beautiful routes to develop

Listening to the 49er fan shows, people are so distraught that they say stupid stuff. I've heard some of the dumbest takes over the past few hours and I chalk it up to grief.

This team is just terribly unlucky. Either God hates the 49ers or Eddie D pissed off some Bayou Riverboat casino owner who also dabbles in voodoo, and he cursed the team.

If Purdy doesn't get injured, we win this game handily. We shut Hurts down. Seriously. Who loses three QBs to serious injuries in one season, much less consecutive ones? Who loses two during one game? This is evil stuff. Calling it bad luck almost feels like downplaying it.

i am a season ticket holder for past 10 years and this was a fun year - i enjoyed many of the home games. Good season overall and we might have found our QB
This season feels like having a stillborn baby. You wait for nine months, no issues and at delivery time absolutely everything goes wrong.

We had the perfect team and in one play everything went wrong. I can't even think about another season. I might not watch another game. The emotional investment is not worth it.

Getting beat by a better team is one thing, but losing because of freak injuries is another.

Agree 💯%, its a violent sport so injuries will occur. But the injuries Kyle gets to his team are so freaky in nature its wierd.

Without the injury to Brock, most of those penalties don't happen.

This is a weird take in my opinion.

Personally I wouldn't putt all my enjoyment of following a sports team to be weighted towards getting a trophy in the players hand and a celebration in the city.

The joys of following a sports teams are the lows and highs that you encounter each season. It's being able to enjoy the journey, whether you reach that final destination or not.

That doesn't take away from the huge disappointment of yesterday. That will last for a while. The injuries, the officiating, key bits of coaching, some ill discipline fuelled by frustration all played a role. But ultimately once Purdy went down injured it was always going to be very, very difficult to win. Once Johnson fumbled and it subsequently went 21-7 the game was over.

I can understand people being frustrated and thinking the season was a waste of time, or wanting to pin the blame on an official, player or coaches mistake. But yesterday was just one of those games where everything that could go wrong, did go wrong. It would be hard to script it any worse (I suppose long term injury to key player is only thing that was missing). That's why it's hard to take. It's frustrating and dip pointing that the team never really had a chance given the circumstances. It's playing with 1 hand (or even 2) behind your back for most of the game. Self inflicted? To a small degree IMO. More a function of misfortune though.

I was 15 the last time the Niners won it all. I'm 44 now. I'd rather this team suck and emotionally divest myself than to be given false hope and fall short every season.

Is that Harbaugh and Shannahan are tied with 3 championship game appearances, 1sb and 0 rings. Spinning our wheels

I agree, season should had been over when Jimmy went down. Instead, we got a ride of a life time with a guy named Purdy for the rest of the season. Got us to NFCCG, unfortunetly got hurt and couldn't advance. Good year and we found our QB, now let's see if he's not hurt too bad.
