Fangio being out more than a year now, has the game gone passed him? If he is our DC, I hope not.

Are you kidding, he's probably as sharp as ever.

Offenses change all the time. New stuff are added in and usually don't remain the same.

What has he gained in a lost year?

Offenses can only change so much, let's agree to disagree.

He hasn't been coaching but he has been consulting and without a doubt he's been watching.

I think it would take more than a year for someone to come back and find their methods have been completely outdated.

It's not like he's been alone on a deserted island for the past year with no TV or phone reception.

I think he'll be fine wherever he goes.

Candidates' names being thrown around to replace DeMeco as the next 49ers DC:

• Steve Wilks - This is my preferred replacement for various reasons

• Vic Fangio - This won't be popular … however, I don't want him as the next DC. The current personnel is just one reason

• Chris Harris - Think Robert Saleh and DeMeco Ryans with this hire … however, the 3rd time isn't guaranteed to be the charm 🤔

• Ejiro Evero - Highly respected, and sought after - and, therein lies the problem. With the talent currently assembled, any success
will probably find the 49ers looking to replace him within two seasons

• Kris Kocurek - I don't even understand why he made this list - as he's stated in the past, he's happy in his current role

• Corey Undlin - Although his previous tenure at the DC position didn't fair well, I don't have much of a feel for him taking over for DeMeco

Somebody willing to stay for 5-10 years please.

Exactly - although in today's NFL, I believe hoping a DC stays 5-10 years is a reach.
Thus my reasoning for not wanting Evero, and Harris.

The younger up-and-coming candidates will continue to use the 49ers as a stepping
stone, as long as the organisation has above-average talent on the defence

It isn't the worst thing though, we keep getting 3rd comp picks.

And keep wasting them on RBs that never see the field.

So? Vic could retire in like a yr or two all the same. He's like 65 or something. I like having the younger/hungrier coaches who want to advance (only do they by being good at your current job). I feel like they can relate to their players better and are more willing to adapt.

I'm fine with Vic, but I'm more than fine if they go somewhere else all the same.

I'm guessing they will interview a couple other guys. On that list I like Wilks, Evero and Vic. There's a couple others within the league I like as well….

-Kris Richard-CO-DC in New Orleans
-Eric Washington-senior defensive assistant/DL coach Buffalo
-Sean Desai-associated HC in Seattle
-Raheem Morris-DC in LAR (could be let go).
-Nick Rallis-LBer coach Philly
-Joe Whitt Jr-DB coach in Dallas.
