I'm with you, I think a move needs to be made but, the only other QB that is probably available is Aaron Rodgers and I don't think he leaves Green Bay. And the 49ers don't have the ammo to make a move for Aaron Rodgers either. There really isn't anyone else out there that could come right in and pick up where Garoppolo/Purdy left off. My hope is that Purdy is healthy by training camp.

What a b******t take. Why didn't Trent retire this yr when he KNEW and supported Lance as the starter?

man you guys are reaching like always on this subject

Well, Joe Staley retired in 2020 bc he didn't want to ride into another season protecting a mediocre QB.

My god how you people do your best to take shots at Jimmy. Keep up the bad work.

Just playing by the same playbook.

What you trying to get under my skin by taking shots at Jimmy?? Lol

I don't give a f**k, have at it my young Flanigan. Jimmy G is gone, no way he re-signs with the 49ers and no way he sticks around to be a back up.

Difference between you and me, from the start I'll come out and say I'm no Trey Lance fan, I didn't like the trade nor did I like Trey Lance coming outta college f**kin Northa Dakota st. if you will. Nope, I didn't pretend to be a fan like some on here (second poster to reply to me post not saying no names). But it is amazing how some of you care if this fan or that fan is or isn't a fan of Trey Lance, then we get the label Jimmy truthers, Jimmy fanboys, Jimmy apologists or whatever. lol
You have 4 quarterbacks in camp this year. Brock, Trey, a veteran (not Josh Johnson - someone serviceable ), and draft a QB.

Let them battle it out in camp and pre-season for the starting role, Keep 3 on the roster

You are making up stories and drama in your head.

Do you think Deebo would have wanted to leave if he thought Trey was going to be the next Mahomes or Allen? I don't.

To be so close and have a roster like this, and have a guy like Trent Williams contemplating retirement tells me he doesn't think we have a chance next year. Why is that?

It's called assumption. Pretty much what we do here at 49erswebzone.com.

It's an extreme reach to say Trent is contemplating retirement because he doesn't want Trey to be the QB and you're making something out of bothering. There's just no evidence for that. You could say he's contemplating retirement because he hates Shanahan or hates the 49er fans. It's flat out making up a story with zero evidence.

It is an extreme reach, but it's my assumption, I'm no media or coach, it's only my opinion and that's all we have here on the Webzone, so why let it bother you.

Yup, keep the best 3, and not only that but press on your 49er scouts to really pick a good diamond in the rough day three QB pick that can *step in* in a pinch vs a developmental QB that *can't* because knowing kyles current offensive scheme, its dangerous to a QBs health.

If it was that simple, no team would struggle to find a QB. Purdy was equal parts luck along with good evaluation but if they knew he would play as well as he did, they wouldn't have waited until the last pick of the draft to take him. Take a shot on a QB late sure, someone like Jake Haener from Fresno State fits the bill but don't expect them to reach Purdy's level as fast, or if ever.

I'm assuming Brady doesn't want to be in the same room as Trey so he went ahead and retired. Someone let the NFL know that Trey is a good person and is a supportive teammate.

Man, after all I said in my post that's the only thing you got out of it.

Did I label Lance a bust already....ready, set go.....show me where I ever said that!!!

I've always said, Trey Lance may turn out to be good, just not with the 49ers, too much time has gone by since he was drafted. And to think that he's all of a sudden gonna jump right in and play lights out like Purdy isn't being realistic. So Lance can make a few throws that Jimmy G and Purdy can't, big deal, still not impressed, so can Cody Pickett. I was led to believe that his scrambling/running ability was incredible coming outta college and so far in the NFL, Brock Purdy's scrambling ability is the one that has impressed me. And not to mention let's not forget Lance's ankle injury, you people gonna blame Shanahan again if Lance takes off running and re-injures his ankle, because (knock on wood) that still can happen.

lol yeah you have, I'm not diving thru the all the posts in the past two yrs. You haven't supported him since day 1. That's with knowing absolutely nothing about him. It's was based around the team moving off Jimmy that bothered you (along with all the others).

Saying he's not gonna be good on this team with this roster/coaching staff is foolish. YOU and a bunch of other people said he couldn't play YR1. "He's too raw" let him sit on the bench…Like he was gonna develop into something magical by not playing football. Then you expect Mahomes come WK1 in a rain storm. Do you not see how dumb and hypocritical that is? You CAN NOT get better at ANYTHING in life by not doing it over and over. Period.

Tell Philly that they shouldn't have allowed Hurts to develop. Tell that to Buffalo. there's PLENTY of QBs that weren't pro-bowlers with 100 passing attempts in the NFL. Shocking I know.

you then pretend that he has no special traits, disregarding throws that yes are elite tier throws. Yeah that s**t matters in a league full of elite players…whether you like it or not.

You blaming kyle for Jimmy and Brock and their injuries? Brock had nothing to do with running. Plenty of Jimmy's injuries had nothing to do with running. That s**t was on execution and playing a sport with massive humans tackling each other. Nothing more nothing else.

What this always came down to is some fans are straight up emotional about Jimmy. They defended him and believed he was something he wasn't. Most fans gave him YEARS to improve and become what others already thought he was…after all that, some fans said it was time to find someone else (so did the team). Those Jimmy truthers couldn't handle criticism. They would NEVER allow Lance to develop or have a chance. Ya'll set him up for failure mainly because you wanted to "show" those other fans that they were wrong about Jimmy…petty b******t imo.

But yeah that Iowa state…straight powerhouse full of amazing talent lol. Eastern Illinois full of HOFers!!

Thinking a player is good or bad based on where he played in college is horse s**t. The two best QBs in the league played at Wyoming in Texas Tech 😂
Thank god the Brady Talk is done.

We already have a good promising qb room with Purdy and Trey. You guys act like Purdy is having his throwing arm amputated. He will be fine - in time.

A veteran presence to help these guys would be good, but our QB coach also fills that role imo. That being said it would still be wise to have a 3rd qb.
Send Gardner. Have a feeling that he'd fit right in with Kittle.

Hearing a ton of love for Haener. Dude is pretty tinny though?

Wasn't trying to get under your skin. Just pointing out you can use the same logic for any retirement at the OL. To say Trent was hinting at retirement bc of Lance is just so ridiculous - so I made an equally ridiculous statement to make a point.

On Jimmy - I thought he played really well this season. Probably the best he has ever played and I respect the hell out of him for playing hurt in the last postseason. I am ready to find a true franchise QB - something we haven't had since Young retired. That's all I've to say on Jimmy.

As far as Lance - i believe we need to see what we have in him. Saying he's not good or anything special - I think it's based on feelings than any real evidence. How Jalen Hurts and Tua played this year should give everyone a reason to feel at least curious about Lance.

Lets Go Lance & Purdy!!!!

Yes!

How did people think going ancient at QB would solve the QB-injuries problem? Truly bizarre!

It never made sense. It was mostly coming from ppl who don't like Lance for whatever reason. They didn't want Lance in the draft - they didn't want Lance starting in his rookie year - they didn't want Lance starting last year and they don't want Lance this year. It's really weird but Niners need to fully get behind their two young QBs.

Hope you're not looking at me, I said this past season that I expected them to move on from Jimmy and go with Trey Lance. As for his rookie season, the plan was always to sit Trey Lance for a season. And now I fully expect them to go with Trey Lance IF Purdy isn't healthy. Did I want Tom Brady, sure, but I was pretty confident it wouldn't happen. And now that he's retired looks like I was right.

But you questioning people who don't like Trey Lance for whatever reason, I don't understand people who do like Lance for whatever reason. He does absolutely nothing special. Brock Purdy is a far better QB than Lance and he should be given the keys to the 49ers offense along with a multi million dollar contract.

Not looking at any specific ppl. That's the general sentiment. There are ppl who never liked Lance and they don't want to give him a real chance.

I like Lance for several reasons - I've gone over them many times since we moved up to 3rd spot in 21 draft. I'm questioning ppl who never liked Lance bc once Shanahan drafted him - they should at least want to see what Kyle saw in him but they don't even want to do that.

And I'm more than happy with Purdy. All I want is 49ers to have a real franchise QB and not bunch of mediocre QBs we have had since Young was forced to retire. I think Lance can be that (and also Purdy) if given a real chance to succeed.

I'm one of those people I hated the trade up and I thought Lance was a bad pick I wasn't impressed at all and thought a raw project was a terrible fit for this team the fact that my team chose him isn't gonna change that but once the pick was made he's a 49er so I'll root for him to prove me wrong just like I did with Alex Smith & Jim stinking Drukenmiller but I'm not holding my breath but I'll be more than happy to eat a big helping of crow if he turns out to be the man unlike some around here I'm more interested in winning than being right and earning some kinda cred as a message board talent evaluator.
