What about David Carr, or Andy Dalton, or even Sam Darnold?

At this point, with the retirement of Brady I'm not too confident about our chances. I'm really traumatized at this point. 4 straight years being undone by one position. This is insane. This is STILL a SB roster but we can't keep a healthy QB. I say stack this position 4 deep, maybe 5 deep. Let Jimmy walk, go get Carr if the Raiders release him, and get another cheap - but talented - vet like Andy Dalton or Sam Darnold. We CANNOT go into the season with just Lance and Purdy. We're in a win-now situation. So I say we carry 4 QB's. I know that's extreme, but so is our QB situation. And we're not gonna solve it by doing the normal.

This is why the league needs to expand the rosters, or allow teams to carry emergency QB's on game days. I can't believe the league like having the 49ers TOTALLY out of QB's simply because teams are limited in the gameday rosters.

I could see them bringing in Darnold on a cheap 1-2 yr deal. He's finally a FA.
I still think Brady will unretire and sign with us for a reasonable amount.

This isn't about money since he already has a lot and has that Fox broadcasting contract for 375 million. More cap money 49ers have, the better the team it will be for Tom.

It's about getting SB #8 and retiring as a 49er.

Do you think he wants to retire after an early exit in the playoffs knowing that if he had a better team he could have possibly won another SB? It's going to eat inside of him, especially after the Super Bowl is over.

No. He's done.
What we know as of now:

We have one "healthy" QB, TL, that will be available for OTAs and beyond. The question of whether or not he is capable of running the offense the way Kyle wants it run will be answered pretty quickly once TA/PS starts. Lance will get all the snaps and all the focus will be on him.

Purdy's situation will remain unknown until the surgery is completed. Until then, all is speculation. The good news is that we will know a lot more about his recovery time by March 15 when FA opens. The worst case scenario is TJ surgery which writes him off for 2023. The best case scenario is that he is ready to begin work around the end of August, according to most medical estimates. However, that is not a chance we can take. In either case, we will need to sign a FA vet as QB2. It would be foolish to let FA go by hoping BP will be ready by 9/1.

Of the FA QBs that are out there, Bridgewater and Brissett are the most likely to be able to run Shanahan's system. They would both be in the $5-7M range. Pray the never have to be used. Others like Keenum and Dalton just don't work in the KS system. Any of these are desparate measures.

Drafting a developmental QB is a pipedream for this year. We need help this year, not in 2024 and beyond. Between Purdy and Lance, we should be fine in 2024. If there is a reasonable project out there, draft him, however, given other needs, it will almost be another Mr. Irrelevant.

All of that brings us back to one other option that MIGHT be available, and that is Garoppolo. If he is as bad as some here claim, he won't get any offers and would be forced to come back here on another minimum deal. Myself, I see him going to the Jets but that is just me. However, if Purdy requires TJ, Jimmy is the best option of all of the above but a lot of things would have to happen for that to work out...and we won't know until well into the summer.

Summarily, we MUST have another QB on the roster by the time April 1 rolls around. We can't sit still and hope that Purdy will be game ready by the start of 2023. Both Lance's health and lack of experience demand we cannot put all our eggs in that basket.

Just my thoughts...
Play the guy you traded 3 first round picks to go get?

Simple

Darnold played well enough down the stretch that he will most likely stay with Frank Reich. He will likely get a 3-year prove-it deal (a lot of incentives from a low base) to stay in Carolina.

David Carr will keep his gig with NFLN but little brother Derek might be available. However, LV isn't going to release him and we don't have the ammo to make a deal so that is off the table.

Dalton doesn't fit Shanny's system.

At this point, he is the only option. The question is; what happens if he isn't "the guy," or if he gets hurt again?

Our qb situation is maxed out at like 5m lol.Parage has to be parage just to sign bosa lol. We have 16 million. 30 for bosa maybe 6 for ward. What about aiyuk. What about rt? Then what about rookies? Then you want a qb lol

Purdys timeline will dictate a lot. I'm sure prior to free agency we'll have a good idea of his timeline. If he'll be ready to go to start the year or very early, I'm sure we'll roll with Lance until he's ready. If Purdy is out for the year then all options will be on the table

It is pretty clear JWard is not coming back.

PM has plenty of options. A current article at Spotrac notes that between Fred Warner and CWard, there is a total of $19M in base salary that can be converted to a signing bonus thereby freeing up the total. That is just one option. There are others.

Money isn't the issue when it comes to QB2/3.

In that case we would have to give up 3 more 1st round picks for the next QB we take in the draft.

Another hand selected QB by our offensive genius.
lets get gardner minshew, cj beathard, ryan tannehill...anyone decent.

Draft another QB? maybe two QBs? Load up on QBs. Fill the whole practice squad with QBs.
