Risky business.
Rams got a SB out of it. The 49ers can play it conservative and maybe Lance turns out to be everything they thought he could be. Or maybe he isnt, or he gets injured again, they end up missing the playoffs but at least they'll have saved capspace. 🤷

LOL, this. It's not even that risky to the cap since Brady is unlikely to be around more than one year. Two, tops.

FWIW it doesn't seem like Brady is taking a discount to sign with anyone.

I'm okay with another QB competition this time with Trey and Purdy.
I still want to see what Shanahan can get out of Trey. He's a specimen whom I've seen glimpses of decisiveness and promise mostly from when he got hot in the Texans game 2 seasons ago.
Purdy isn't Joe Montana. At least not yet. His instincts are off the charts and despite his limitations he made this offense hit another gear. But similarly to Jimmy the field is still shortened because of his lack of downfield arm strength but he certainly seems more willing to test those further throws.
Their style of play will challenge the other a lot better than the comps between Jimmy and Trey of the last two years.
I don't know how interested I'd be in Tom. If it turns out 46 years old is the expiration and it's evident early, can you even bench him? And how much would need to be given as compensation to the Bucs and to Brady? Because of that I am a bit more hesitant to go that route than with the question mark that is Trey. If Trey wins the job and faulters I'd still feel pretty good (all things considered) knowing Purdy is more than capable if we need him.
And no to Jimmy. I appreciate what he's done here while healthy but he needs a new team and we need to quit turning to him. Few more years and he gona be another Dante Johnson.

What if, what if, what if....works both ways.
Rams also needed luck, every team needs luck. Brady doesn't guarantee anything. It's a one shot deal and if you miss you're facing a lot of headaches.
It's not about "saving capspace" it's about keeping the team as a whole stronger for longer.
I'd rather have multiple chances with Brock and/or Trey than one shot in the dark with Brady.
Get him for 10 or so mil, sure.....but I don't believe we're getting him for as big a discount as some are hoping.

It's funny every thread became a TB12 thread. Love it. I was.ginna start a TB12 to the 49ers thread this AM. Maybe we should. Kinda consolidation of some sort hahahaha
Glad to be back chatting in this thread. Been a while. I lost some energy to chat because I felt I was the biggest AS hater and many still ignore me for that hahahah or other reasons
Happy to be re-engaged with the best fans on earth.

Brady is a free agent, so nothing would be owed to the Bucs.

We move on with our lives and enjoy stress free sundays until the Niners return in the fall and disappoint us again

Pretty much. It's Treys job to lose now. Back at square one of last year.
Yup.
Or until he gets hurt.

Its about giving yourself as many options as possible. With the talent on this roster, if you were to make a one year run to try and win a SB, are you more confident with Brady or Lance? Or Brady and Lance in case another QB injury hits.
If Purdy has to undergo a complete reconstruction, he's out of the picture for next season pretty much so yeah, I'm far more confident bringing in Brady, loading up at OL and DL in the draft over rolling it all on Lance and whatever mediocre veteran QB the teams brought in to save capspace.
The cap stuff, let Marathe and Co figure all that out.
