At this point, with the retirement of Brady I'm not too confident about our chances. I'm really traumatized at this point. 4 straight years being undone by one position. This is insane. It is pretty clear JWard is not coming back.

PM has plenty of options. A current article at Spotrac notes that between Fred Warner and CWard, there is a total of $19M in base salary that can be converted to a signing bonus thereby freeing up the total. That is just one option. There are others.

Money isn't the issue when it comes to QB2/3.

First off 19 million plus 16 is 35 million. That covers bosa. If people all want to bring in a qb to compete or start they are tripping it's almost impossible. And what about rookies lol

Bosa already counts as 17-18mil under our 2023 cap so at most it would be an additional amount of money, not the whole lot.

Besides, contracts are almost never structured that way. Even if we re-signed him we'd probably still keep his 2023 cap hit at what it is now and possibly even lower it.

We should have the $$$ to go and get Trey/Purdy more support. They're going to need it.

I don't know English…maybe we should be honed in on some QB who started all 4 yrs in college, in a great conference, the Big 12, and who had good success in college ball, and then look at QBs who fit AND are still available late in the 7th rd.

For those mid rounders, I'd be looking at OLs, at least a couple and maybe even 3. I suspect Kyle is going to pay more attn to QB protection this yr than he has previously. I certainly hope so. Purdy's future is bright. I fully expect him to recover and play well in 2023 and beyond. Kyle needs QB#3 to be ready as QB#2 and #1 since his System eats up QB's the way it eats up OLinemen and RB's. For sure draft offensive line because of Trent's age and the pending possible departure of McGlinchy. Also, better pass protectors than run blockers for Purdy's sake.

I agree, nothing matters until we know the results of recovery and timetable on a Purdy return. 3 months until he starts a throwing program and 6 months to be a full go is an encouraging timeline. He would only miss OTAs and minicamp. He would be able to attend and take in the information, however. Despite his injury he will still workout and improve his overall fitness. He's QB #1 if this holds true. Trey Lance, as much as I like him and think he hasn't had a fair shot, would be QB #2, IMO.

If we have a healthy Purdy/Lance going into TC I don't think we need a "veteran" in the room. Most of the veteran QBs available aren't any good. Rather take a flier on another young guy with mid-late round picks.

Yeah, but it sounds like Shanahan is content with drafting a rookie in the late round to back up Trey Lance. This is assuming that Brock Purdy isn't ready to start the season. Which he may not be.
