While everybody is saying we Must get a starter over Lance, I'm saying we Can't get a starter over Lance. With his lack of game experiene, we don't know what he can become, we have 3 firsts tied up in him, he has no trade value at this point, and even before Purdy got hurt I was thinking we must keep him so that sooner or later he will get a chance to prove himself to the rest of the league. That's the only way we can recoup some draft capital. And we Can't pay someone like Carr etc and sign the guys we need to sign to keep us strong.

Come on people. Nobody thought Purdy could get it done. When everybody was saying Mac Jones had proven he had a very quick mind, Kyle was saying Wait, we think Trey and not Mac has shown he's got the best mind in that draft. Who among us can dismiss that without a reasonable tryout. Kyle also says you get better at football by playing football. How many collegiate games has Lance played vs Purdy. Our best plan is Still to keep Lance, give him the off season reps, coach him up, and keep him for the backup for the next two cheap rookie contract years. Our backup just might have to play at least the start of this year.

Sure it's a gamble, but losing our very high talent team to a blown cap is a sure and lasting disaster that will eventually hurt Purdy and the Faithful, and put off for another generation and coach that dust spot where 6 belongs. You want trophies? You must be competetive every year, because on any given year, you may get a broken leg or Tommy John surgery. Even in the 80's, we didn't win the SB every year, but we always made sure we still had a shot the next.

But we have seen Lance. Lance hasn't shown as much in his, what 4 games compared to what Purdy has shown in say his first 4 starts.

True, but you are comparing snap shots at different points in their development, and I never said Lance is better than Purdy.

I like Haener but he was a bit injury prone himself in college.

That's why he's a perfect fit! The only way to defeat the injury curse is to stockpile enough injury prone QBs that eventually the two will cancel each other out.

This, is NOT encouraging!

Hummmm, I wonder what the vets on the team think of this

Yep like I said. You're about to see the Kyle Shanahan era go down in flames. 7 years no dividends. Sticking to his "guns" and going with ?quarterbacking on a loaded offense.

EPIC FAIL !

How coaches in the league have had more success than Kyle over the past 6 seasons?
You can count them on one hand.
Kyle's job is secure.

I agree, nothing matters until we know the results of recovery and timetable on a Purdy return. 3 months until he starts a throwing program and 6 months to be a full go is an encouraging timeline. He would only miss OTAs and minicamp. He would be able to attend and take in the information, however. Despite his injury he will still workout and improve his overall fitness. He's QB #1 if this holds true. Trey Lance, as much as I like him and think he hasn't had a fair shot, would be QB #2, IMO.

If we have a healthy Purdy/Lance going into TC I don't think we need a "veteran" in the room. Most of the veteran QBs available aren't any good. Rather take a flier on another young guy with mid-late round picks.

#DraftHaener

Word is the Cowboys want Jake.

Cowboys can go eat a bag of..a whole bottle of maraschino cherries.

Next chance to see him is this Saturday in the Senior Bowl. I'm no fan of Mel Kiper Jr., but he does rate him as a Day 2 or Day 3 selection.
People think the announcement that we won't go after a notable veteran is bad news?

I see that as good news. Tells me they think there's a good chance Purdy will be healthy. As much as they want to test Lance, they wouldn't go into the season with just him on the roster.

This happens every year. It's like some GM in Feb saying we are content with Sam Darnold and will ride him into the sunset. Happens every single year. Then they go out and draft Corral and add Baker. You don't want to send a shot across the bow to your active roster. They find out once the move has already been made.
It doesn't matter if we can't keep the QB healthy with our scheme. But Purdy is the guy.

It will be as long as the fan base continues to congratulate him on almost making it to the SB…

There's no reason that the Niners can't draft a QB in one of the rounds next year. They have 11 picks and could package a couple to move up to the 2nd round if they wanted to or just use one of their 3rd rounders on a QB.
They should be drafting a QB every year considering how many QB's keep getting put on IR on this team.

Or we could keep drafting the guys that help prevent the QBs from being put on IR every season.
