Harris sounds exactly like the kind of guy Kyle hires.

Can already picture him losing his s**t on the sidelines after the defense makes a big play.

He definitely fits the bill, similar to Saleh and Ryans, of "my DC can kick your DC's ass".

If our DC can kick your OC's ass, our defense can kick your offense's ass.

I really like both of you 🤙🏾
Chris Harris seems perfect for the Niners- 2 years as DC then he gets a HC gig somewhere.
I was never in on Vic Fangio. His defensive scheme doesn't fit the personnel, really his only appeal to me would be that he is not likely to receive a HC offer in the future.

I also think there's something to be said for the style of DC that the 49ers have preferred during the Shanahan era. On the sidelines, not in a booth. Interacting with the defense. Collaborative. Shanahan and Lynch both spoke extensively on continuity, and this is part of that IMO. This isn't a knock on Vic Fangio, you can obviously be a successful DC from a booth- but I think the 49ers will prefer a personality and style closer to what this defensive has become accustomed. to.

Kris Kocurek isn't a super genius or anything I think that, like Jim Tomsula before him, a lot of his success as a D-Line coach is how his coaching style resonates with his players. They all buy into what he is selling. The 49ers should look for a DC that is of course possessing the chops, but also has the qualities that they are looking for in general- Vic Fangio isn't that guy.

That means nothing. Titans reached an agreement with him weeks ago to be their defensive passing game coordinator but it's contingent on him not getting a DC position elsewhere.

Fangio was it for me or at bare minimum, they had a shadow in house candidate learning from Ryans for a full year primed to take over.

I mostly wanted Fangio because his system is the equivalent to Kyle's offense once set up (plug and play with next man up). And I felt he could challenge Kyle on their game scripts and most importantly, he's older so more likely to stay put AND be an excellent mentor/sounding board for Kyle. Not to mention the peace of mind Kyle would have with him in house...never needs to worry about the D and can focus on his offense. He'd be a great HC Assistant as well. This is why Mike McDaniel went after him too.

But I do trust Kyle on his hires. It just seems like they've got caught with their pants down again in a situation they've known about for two years.

I think they had Fangio in mind a while ago, but he choose Miami.

My top three candidates:

1. Chris Harris
2. Steve Wilks
3. Anyone currently on the 49ers defensive staff

I do too. I think Kyle might prefer a younger coach anyhow.

Wilks is my choice but I'm happy with whoever. This staff has proven to be good at selecting coaches
I feel sorry for the dude that has to replace DeMeco, the players respected and loved him so much, big shoes to fill
