Someone will pluck him off of the practice squad.

The thing I want to avoid is a repeat of the Daniel Carlson situation in Minnesota back in 2018.

Daniel missed an XP and FG in a 29-29 tie against Green Bay in week 2. The Vikings drafted him with a 5th round pick, and cut him after two games.

He signed with the Raiders and is now one of the better kickers in the league (First-team All-Pro (2022), Second-team All-Pro (2021), 2× NFL scoring leader (2020, 2021)).

I'd hate to see something like that happen with Moody.

I feel like that is what WOULD happen...but it doesn't mean we won't suffer some this season waiting for him to build his confidence.
All power, poor technique. Seems like he's swinging for home runs instead of making clean contact and hitting singles. We don't need 60+ yard power with every kick.

Lol a 3rd round pick on a player who can barely hit chip shots and PATs. At least these things get much easier in real games

What do you expect him to hit balls into orbit? If he's looked good in practice the only question is live fire. Only one way to find out and we soon will.

I don't think it's the distance that anyone is worried about...

Daniel Carlson was improve for kicker goal..

Have you noticed that Moody always prefer to Hash Marks to kick goal?! Smh I think Head coach jim harbaugh realized that moody was weak to kick missed goal the middle? I wonder at all. Moody had same thing to kick the ball move to right and left that same things. I just watched him for the highlights video. Check it out on his YouTube video.

I could see an argument if he was struggling in both, because a directional kicker would have a lot more wiggle room to push the ball left or right from wide hashes and still make it through the uprights. In the NFL, you have to narrow your placement. His kicks in these past few games have very much looked like he was kicking from a wider hashmark, based on how he's pushed or pulled the ball way more than you'd like.

What doesn't make sense is he's been drilling it in practice no problem, and even in pre-game warmups. What's the real difference in the game? The hashes don't change.

Kicking motion is like a golf swing, you have to drill it in with a lot of reps. Something is happening live where he's losing focus or something. I don't know if Wish isn't holding it how he wants, or what. They've gotta figure it out cause we can't risk losing games cause of him.

Never in the history of the NFL do we understand the science of kicking better then we do now, nor have we ever had as much money being funneled into adjacent sports that track how humans kick or hit balls in a controlled fashion. At the least you would think through the cross training available that place kicking coaching would be as much of a science as it could possibly be.

So many positions in the NFL are kinda just out there on their own....

Kicking tho?

There has to be a ton of shared training with everything from Baseball, to Golf to Soccer. We have a pretty clear understanding that if we hit a ball like this...it goes like that.

I personally have no issue taking a punter or kicker in the draft, I get it...you can get a similar product for free in FA.....but if I was going to draft one.....I think step 1 in the process is does this guy have either a LEG like the NFL has never seen before, or Ice water in his veins. The closer you get to the first round the more of those two traits the player has to have.

Anyways..I would fire the Special teams coach before I fired the kicker, we got red flags allover special teams... I dont think anyone has any tolerance for crappy special teams.

I dont think its technique since he makes them all in practice
Just watched the replay of his game winner and he barely made that. don't feel real great about him from what I've seen

I think there is a huge difference in the speed of the game or something but once he adjusts I think he could be a star because the dude has a leg

Im with you on this. Kinda one step backward in the investment of a 3rd round pick before he makes 2 steps forward when it matters. Crossing my fingers for the teams gamble on him.
Gould was getting old and lack of long kicking success limiting the teams chances has to be considered above any homerism.
There was only 5 teams that were perfect on extra point conversions last season. We were not one of them and neither was the Ravens who have Justin Tucker. There are more extra point misses than people realize.

Yep and not many of us fans were liking the shorter kick offs that Gould and Wish were dishing out even though the coaches wanted it out of the EZ.
