I don't think we're signing for the long term, but Moody's inconsistency and ailment may mean these emergency plans may last longer.

Situation like this is yet another reason to not draft a kicker. Is it almost worst case scenario ? Sure. By not drafting a kicker you avoid all this nonsense. Kicker struggles ? Cut him. Kicker gets the yips ? Cut him. Kicker gets injured ? Cut him.

Right now its limbo status for Moody. He's injured, you likely have to use a roster or an IR spot for him not to kick. Even worse, he missed XP and two kicks in preseason, one by a mile. You have no idea if/when he is healthy you can count on him. That's exactly what a win-now team does NOT need, inconsistency and uncertainty. A win-now team would probably want a kicker who makes everything under 45 but cant kick further than that.

Overall, not only have the 49ers spent a third round pick on a kicker when they couldve had a tackle, edge rusher or a corner - positions where depth is questionable currently - but they are also about to spend a valuable 53 man roster spot to stash him. This is just a waste of resources.

Damn, I don't remember having Vizcaino. Numbers seem like exactly what we need to get through, though. I'm still worried when Moody returns.

The 49ers are being so insanely cheap at an important position. If Moody isn't ready, put him on the IR after he makes the 53 tomorrow and sign a legit veteran on a 1 year deal. Not these half ass guys like Vizcaino and Russolino. Vizcaino apparently was horrible in Cowboys camp this year.

I would love to sign him as a P to replace Wish. Wish is insanely overrated. Araiza was innocent but nobody is going to touch him, sucks for him.

A reminder that a team can only bring eight guys off IR for the whole season, and that the Niners hit that limit last year resulting in Ridgeway unable to come off IR.
