He missed because he didn't "accurately" assess the wind. I don't think he is inaccurate. Reports before the game said you it was windy but you couldn't feel the wind on the field. Both of his kicks start centercut and get pushed right because of the wind. He said himself after the game that he misjudged the wind.

Shoulda snapped the ball and kicked it after the ice to get that rep. A lot of shoulda coulda's I suppose and some learning moments that STs, Kyle and Moody can learn from... i.e. make it an easier kick, put the ball on the left hash. End of the day, make the kick.

He hits it well, no doubt. The kid will be good and of course I'm rooting for him to make the next one.

On to the Vikings and Kirk on primetime.

I was thinking that at that very moment. Smh is our long snapper not a veteran?

Hit the FG the 49ers win after having a lousy day. Brock has pressure the whole game Moody has pressure on one play of the game.

Every kick a kicker makes comes with pressure to execute.

Had Moody hit the 54 yarder in the 1Q, the ebb and flow changes and that chance at a game winning FG might not have happened. And on the flip side if Hopkins didn't miss in the 1Q then we likely aren't trying to kick a game winning FG and instead we would have had to put the ball in the box to win.

There were missed opportunities all game long by this team that could have changed the outcome yesterday. Games are never truly won or lost on but just one play.
We need to get him another opportunity to kick a game winning field goal before the end of the regular season. That would be the high pressure kick test he needs to pass. He already fail once.

You don't want to have to find out whether he is clutch during post season.

It will likely happen. But there are also other high pressure kicks he'll have a chance to make.

That 57 yarder he hit against the Rams was a pressure kick in my opinion. Not to the level of a game winner in bad weather outdoors, but certainly more than what were effectively no pressure kicks in every other attempt he had. That was a close game where the points really mattered.

The way I look at it Brock and the offense did their part to win the game make the kick it's a moot point. Not saying cut Moody or anything like that. The game was there to win I do not blame this things that happened in the rest of the game nor the Refs or anything other wise they were there and the kick was missed. It's Over move onto the next. But I grant you this the young man misses anymore and this team will be looking for another kicker and let Moody develop. They will not risk a Super Bowl team for one weak link.

good post, but you don't 'let Moody develop', not sure what that means, he's either kicking for SF or he's got his walking papers,
kickers don't develop, they simply kick, any development, is on the job

Same here. I noted the same in the GD thread even.

I just meant bring in a veteran kicker and let Moody learn from him or watch and observe. I just don't see Lynch and Shanny letting him go being he is a third round pick.

This conversation is across multiple threads, but to me this is one major reason why you don't spend this high of a pick on a kicker.

No chance we should be pot committed to a shaky kicker in a SB season, simply because he was a third round pick.

That being said, to me a failure in a week 6 game is not enough to jump ship yet. Also, I trust Kyle and John will if they deem it necessary. They've certainly proven they won't be held hostage by draft pick investment at more important positions, lol.

I trust Kyle and John also they have built this team from the ground up pretty much. I just hope they don't waste a Super Bowl team over a rookie kicker who is apt to miss a game winner in the playoffs when the pressure is 10 fold of what he faced Sunday.

I don't think they will. Hopefully it's a non issue.
The wind was too moody for Moody. We need a wind shaman for Jake.

Gould missed game winners too.

Yeah he did. But in the playoffs when the pressure was high he was money. I am hoping I can say the same for Moody in January and February.

My money is on Moody being as clutch as Jimmy G. wss in the playoffs. Robbie Gould should retire and keep his perfect post season performance intact.
