You're using these two as if they're contradictory. Also, this type of rhetoric allows to defend a kicker even in the first round.

Here's the thing. Drafting a kicker in the first several rounds is not much better than drafting one in the first.

Here are all the kickers who were drafted:

Can you tell me those drafted in rounds 1-4 are definitely much better than those drafted in 5-7 or undrafted? No, you can't. And with position players those drafted in round three are far more likely to be elite or great players than those undrafted.

Not to mention that drafting a kicker this high up also means you can't cut him if he struggles, unless you want to carry two kickers on the roster. You draft him in the seventh, you can easily cut him if he starts being unreliable. This is why kickers are replaceable and position players aren't.

Why? Gould is gone, son. We either wait until the 7th round and hope someone decent is there. Or, you do it and get he best kicker in the Nation.

Last line of defense is built like a safety.

Yeah, a better idea would have been to pick a kicker with a weaker leg and who was more inconsistent.
Are we the only FO regime to draft a PK in the 3rd and a P in the 4th?

In the 7th round, probably. Because, how dare a team waste a pick higher than a 7th rounder, an a kicker.

I dont know but Rich Eisen should be contractually obligated to do the reaction to every 49ers draft pick from here on out.

This is a false dichotomy fallacy. You don't even have to pick a kicker in the draft. They already spent some capital on a kicker this offseason, a 7th swap, which is well indicative of a kickers value in the NFL.

Harrison Butker - the kicker of the champs - was a seventh round pick who got cut and then picked up by the Chiefs. We'll be lucky if Moody is as good as him.

An upside for a third round kicker is an udfa or late draft kicker.
An upside for a positional player is Fred Warner.
From Lance Zierlien...yikes, didn't know about the 66.6% from 40+. For context, Gould's career was 76% from 40+, 77% from 40-49.

Overview

Moody has just two seasons as a full-time kicker but he was a consistent performer who could pull the team to wins when the offense sputtered. He's very reliable on kicks shorter than 40 yards but has been less consistent from longer distances. He's capable on kickoffs and strikes the ball with consistency, so he should get a shot a chance to compete for a roster spot in camp.

Strengths
Went 8 for 8 on field goals in tight wins over Nebraska (2021) and Illinois (2022).Consistent kickoff hang-time for coverage to advance. Knocked down a 59-yard field goal against TCU in the national semifinal.

Weaknesses
Doesn't have a booming leg. Made just 66.6 percent of kicks from 40-plus yards in last two seasons. Has a tendency to pull kicks occasionally from the right hash.

Butker, is the outlier, dynasty. Those things don't usually happen all the time. So, in between those times, got to keep on chopping the tree.

Well, hopefully one of him or Gonzales deserves the job.

Lol, yeah, is Gonzales still in hospice care. Lol, yeah we can really on him, he can't even get through a practice without hurting himself.

Per the link below he was 7-8 between 40 and 49, and 3 for 7 beyond 50 (in 2022).

https://www.foxsports.com/college-football/jake-moody-player-stats?category=kicking&seasonType=reg

That totals the 66.6, which means that scouting report didn't differentiate between 40-49 and 50+. Gould's career is 77% from 40 to 49. Moody's was 87.5% from that range (in 2022).
