He also hit 2 50+ yarders in the SB. He's talented, but just not reliable at all. I rather have a guy that is lights out from 40-50 than Moody who might be able to hit a 58 yarder but is unreliable everywhere else.
All of this. It's too risky to keep him
Not too many options out there though.
He at least showed he can make big kicks in the playoffs and SB.
I trust him more than some K of the street to perform well under big pressure moments, for the first time in their career.
Even if he showed he can make big kicks in the playoffs and Super Bowl, he also showed he can miss big kicks in the playoffs and Super Bowl that could've cost us every game, especially in the Super Bowl with that missed extra point.
I believe he's better on longer kicks than the 40 yard variety because there's little pressure if he misses (not many kickers can make 50 and 60 yards consistently). However, he chokes with shorter kicks that are very makeable, and we can't risk that going forward.

He is on thin ice here. A couple more botched kicks and he is out. I can't imagine there won't be any competition in camp though. There are plenty of available kickers throughout the year so if and when he fails it will be easy to replace him. I wish the same could be said for ol' and dl players…

FWIW, Moody made clutch kicks in college. One of the reasons he was probably drafted by us. He didn't just get the name Money Moody out of no where. Unfortunately we didn't get that version of him.

I think the plan was to have money moody keep the consistency of gould and not have to make gould the highest paid kicker
