Lots of kickers bounced back to have a good career after struggling, they usually do it on the next team. Moody may turn it around, just not with the Niners. Good luck to the young man.

This video makes a solid point that Wish not being his holder the second half of the year likely compounded the issue. I'd still want competition brought in, but whoever the holder is next year (either Wish or another ST guy) also needs to do better than Pat O'Donnell did.

Doesn't matter. Outside of extreme cases, as a kicker, you should be able to kick an accurate ball.
I know I practiced with all kinds of weird positions with the football when I played and if I recall, Robbie Gould did this too.
Jake has poor body control IMO and I don't know why but constantly screws up his plant foot. That is a mental issue that indicates he's thinking about other things that are distracting him from having proper technique.

Everything has its degrees. At some point a hold can be bad enough to contribute to the inaccuracy of the kick. I'm not gonna profess to know where that line is, but I'd rather have more holder consistency than less.

Moody must have a great relationship with Kyle.
He does fit the mold of a Kyle guy, looks the part.

You can practice it, but you can't adjust mid kick. If the ball is supposed to go down like / but instead is , well you're F'd.
Also if the ball goes down a few inches in any direction, that changes your plant location on your last stride and/or your swing.
Not excusing misses but there is no practicing holder F ups, if that IS what was happening.

There were no holder mistakes, those are just excuses.

I was encouraged by Moody's rookie season and thought he got unnecessarily crapped on by a lot of Niner fans.
I cannot defend him this year. Whether or not his mechanical issues are a result of him rushing back from an injury, something mental, or him just sucking down the stretch, I cannot say. But he missed far too many kicks this year for me to be comfortable bringing him back.
If he would have built even slightly on last season, I would want him back and actually feel confident he would become a very good kicker. But he majorly regressed and absolutely cannot be on the team next season.

I do think not all holds were perfect but.. Unless the ball is spinning or totally laces in, a good consistent approach will still get that ball moving accurately. Just speaking from experience.
