That is more like it.
This shouldn't come as a surprise. Most teams usually have a couple kickers in camp anyway in case one gets hurt. I don't know how much it will help since Moddy's problems weren't in camp. He was fine in practice from what I heard. His isse were in games where he obviously got the yips. He was missing right and then left which is an indication that it's mental and not physical.
It will "help", at least in the theory, because his job will be on the line.
Assuming what you are saying is correct, as much as there can be legitimate complaints or concerns with Kyle, I am sure he would have noticed the same thing you just said. But the thing is, if it is mental and game situations gave him the yips, even though it is practice/camp, knowing his job is on the line will also give him the yips and he will fail. Or he won't have the yips, he'll win the job, and he will kick well enough to shut almost everyone up. Or, he does well, but the veteran kicker, also wanting a job, beats him out.
Short of just straight releasing Moody, this IS the best thing they could do. There isn't really a downside because Moody knew he would be the kicker regardless last year.
