what I did notice was that before each kick, mcdaniels iced him. So I'll pay attention to that going forward to see if it bothers him. Seems it did this game.

Am I the only one that thinks it's douche to ice a kicker in a meaningless pre-season game? I swear Mcdaniels was coaching this game like it was the SB.

Maybe Kyle asked Mcdaniels to do that? Idk... you never know.

Misses in preseason will be forgotten about if he hits at a high percentage in the regular season. Hopefully that was an anomaly.

What is concerning is even established experienced veteran kicker can have the issue carried throughout the season.

2012 David Akers
2012 Mason Crosby

These are just examples of of my head. There are many.

If he continues to struggled, We wouldn't know whether he is a good kicker in a slump, or if he is a bad kicker.

And remembered Moody didn't just missed 2 FGs. The extra point was a really bad kick as well, so it was more than one missed FG and one fail Hail Mary as some posters described.

Has Gould been signed? Any chance we call him if Moody misses during the season?

John's song dedication:
"Trying to keep up the smile that hides a tear, But as the sun goes down, I get that empty feeling again
How I wish to God that you were here
Baby come back, any kind of fool could see
There was something in everything about you. Baby come back, you can blame it all on me" 🎶
We kind of need Moody to have more FG/XP attempts in preseason, but are we also kind of obligated to give Zane Gonzalez FG/XP attempts. Zane almost certainly won't make the team (unless Moody continues to completely meltdown) and he needs films to show to other teams. I wonder how we will allocate the FG/XP attempts in the rest of the preseason.
Looks like Zane is gunna come in on Sat and kick some balls

He really was taking it pretty serious. I guess he needs practice cause he struggles to win regular games. Lol he was probably butt hurt we beat them last season.

I'm here for the kicker controversy.
There's no way this guy is cut. His draft status is going to give him at least 1 year on the team. Also KS likes the idea of being able to take a 55+ yard FG attempt. We have to just hope he can figure it out as the preseason/season goes on and not cost us any games.

So you think he doesn't get cut even if he struggles and costs the team games ? They are going to carry two kickers ?

This is a big problem with drafting a kicker high. Kickers are a replaceable commodity in the NFL. Robbie was one of the best kickers in football and clutch in offs last year. He's without a job currently. Having a kicker actively hurt your team on the field and off the field (via carrying two kickers on your roster) is just not good. If a kicker was an UDFA and he's struggling, you just cut him and move on.
theyre practicing icing him

Kickers get iced all the time, to be expected and ya gotta play through it. Is it a douche move in the preseason? Naa, a part of the game, though it's a little a bit serious lol..but yeah, Raiders were playing like it was the playoffs and when they won, they acted like they won the SB. I mean when you're the Raiders, I guess you grab on to anything you can LOL

I agree with your sentiment but there's nothing the 49ers can do.

If he starts to miss regular season kicks and/or costs us a game then it'll be a different story and we may have to look at FAs. But Moody is going to he given as much leeway as any kicker to figure it out because we invested so much in him and also because he has a huge leg. I agree - this is part of the problem with picking a kicker so high. You feel compelled to keep them even if they struggle.
