Pretty soon (I hope) it will be a debate between Joe, Steve, and Brock!

Joe Montana is the greatest 49er of all-time (sorry Jerry) but also hates the 49ers
Steve Young although not as great as Joe is still a legend in his own right, and embraces being a 49er to this day.
hmmmm

I will say upfront, Steve gets a lot more love now because of how he still loves this team - long after retirement! I smile every time he says "we" or "our" when talking about the 49ers! This is STILL his team and he feels every bit a part of it. Where Joe kinda stepped away for quite awhile, still upset about the trade.
On the field, they were also very different. Steve was like a firecracker, Joe was a surgeon. Steve may have been more fun and exciting to watch...but in a game you have to win...when the pressure was on...Joe would just cut you to pieces. Perfect precision. It's still crazy to think we had both of these HOF QB's at the same time, and don't forget Steve Bono at #3 - who would have been #2 on EVERY other teame in the league, and probably would have started on a few of them!

I got to see Joe and Jerry in February. Joe seemed very nice, playing catch with fans..taking pictures with ppl, when that crowd was absolutely insane, all trying to get a glimpse of him. He seems more of a reserved type..maybe that is what it is? Maybe misunderstood? Idk.
It would have been cool to see him on that stage a while back with Steve, Brock, Smith and Garcia though. Seemed kinda incomplete without him there idk.
Jerry was definitely less reserved, super nice, chill and just seemed really down to earth. And he certainly loves the 49ers. Very interactive and damn, that guy has style! Lol

Joe had the clutch gene. I agree Steve was the better passer and the better athlete overall, but for whatever reason came up short in big moments.
I'll always be a Young fan though. Grew up with those 90s Niners, and to me Steve > Joe.

The game when I knew Steve was awesome Greenbay NFCCG at candlestick. The game was pretty much over and the team was just going through the motions. Steve kept playing even running the ball himself. He got up after a tackle in the mud with huge hunks of the turf stuck to his face mask. Trying to get his team back in place for the next play. Huge heart in a player.
