with all HONESTY, I did not think Reid was going to win one in Philly... I also knew he was not going to be a 20 year HC w/the Eagles.
Kyle may win one, I just don't think here in SF...
Tell me, do you see him coaching this team if we decline badly the next 2 years?
Why would we decline badly? Are you saying we decline badly bc of him or some other reason?
I'm probably the wrong person to ask bc i hate when teams move on from coaches every few years. I like what teams like the Steelers do, they get their HC and keep him for a long time. Some years they are going to be good and you hope they win it all and some years they have to go through a rebuilding phase. As long as the coach is willing to change with the times i think teams should keep their coaches for a long time, especially if they get to the playoffs consistently.
Im with you. Barring total incompetence, I wish teams were more patient. Too many people think success is this linear progression when in reality its volatile. There are ups and downs, but over time, you work to trend up. Only the Tomsula like coaches should be one and done. But if there are sparks, development of players, the team isn't hasn't tuned out the coach, stick with them- ESPECIALLY if there is no franchise QB in the building. Four years is fair outside of the few exceptions.
I'm all for the longevity... but some where down the road, each of us must know when enough's enough.. Changes are needed sometimes.. . Tampa won it after Dungy.. Colts won it with Dungy..
I just fully believe that there are coaches that are not meant to be a HC but can be a hell of a coodinator.. Dick LeBeau is a great DC.. Wade Philips a great DC.. Norv... June Jones.. Martz.. very respected OC.. but the line stops there...
just look at Mooch, how good was he as our HC, but the guy can't put it together and can't get pass Green Bay... he's just like Shanny... he's a good advertisement but not a fine product.. Mooch had 2 Super Bowl winning teams can could not get it done..
.. and as bad a HC as Seifert was, he at least knew to " NOT MESS IT UP " his 1st year.. then his SF 91 team, that was Super Bowl in the bag but did not know what to do w/the team against a young Dallas ... had not been for Prime Time, Dallas gone 3 SB..
