Backload and incentivize the shlit out of it. It's definitely pushing us harder into the win now faze

I don´t know how to feel about that one.
They need to re-sign Nick Bosa and Brandon Aiyuk. I know the cap will increase and that they have two rookies QB contracts to build the roster around but still that´s a lot of money for a DT. And quite frankly, I would have prefered they signed a big FA at the DE position or CB. And why didn´t they re-sign DJ Jones last year honestly?

But damn, Javon Hargrave is a great player and exactly what this team needs. And he was good with the Steelers and the Eagles. Maybe, they won´t sign a DE because they know what they have with Drake Jackson.

Jones is not even close to the player Hargrave is. Hargrave had more sacks last year than Jones has had in his career.

I didn't want to see negativity yet but explains why the eagles were able to be run on last year.

I'm very confident that Kocurek will put Hargrave in the best possible position to maximize his pass-rushing talents and not expose him to getting run on so much. Front office is really great about getting defensive line depth.

build the D so good.. IT DOESN'T MATTER WHO THE QB IS

Nope it does. They should be loading up on O but this is our philosophy. Hargrove did nothing against Mahommes in the second half.

This makes sense

Don't pay Buck, don't pay Jones, wasted a pick on Kinlaw with Wirfs on the board. Don't make senses tbh

Was thinking the same thing, especially with Jones and his salary half of what we're paying Hargrave.

You do understand that Hargrave is a much better player than Jones, right? He had more sacks last year than Jones has had his entire career.

Also add in Hargrave isn't injury proned from what hes shown.

I'm wasn't trying to sound negative, just want to see the entire picture. I've only heard of him recently when folks pegged him as a free agent target, and now that he's a 49er I want to learn about his skillset.

Does it mean other teams ran away from him?
66 pressures!!! Hell yea
An absolute home run signing and I didn't see this one coming at all. This was the best possible way to correct the DBuck blunder.

Several reasons why this is a great signing.

we solidify our defensive line. Arik Armstead will no longer face double teams inside.

We had 6.5 total sacks out of the DT position last season, Hargrave had 11 alone.

Hargrave has been very durable through-out his NFL career. Yes, he's 30yrs old but he did just turn 30 and I think he will still be able to play at a high level for at least 2 seasons and probably more.

high character guy with a great work ethic.

some say "well he only had one really good season (last year)" because they just look at the sack numbers. But he played very well in 2021 as well for
philly and had 7.5 sacks and led their DT's in QB hurries. Previous to that with the Steelers he played DE in a 3-4 and was basically playing to two-gap and play the run but still managed solid sack numbers not playing a position to his strengths.

Signing him from the Eagles (our biggest NFC threat) basically gives us the best D-line in the NFL which the Eagles had before losing Hargrave. So it's a double win.

we can now finally move on and stop depending on Kinlaw and maybe get a fourth rd pick for him?

Adding Hargrave also helps lessen the blow of losing DeMeco Ryans as our DC as Wilks will have more talent than Ryans had.

our cornerbacks instantly become better.

Just a really, really good overall signing. If Hargrave was 27 he would have not even hit the open market and the eagles would have probably franchised him and would have gotten at least a second round pick for him and probably more. Like I said though, he just turned 30 and has stayed healthy and I think he has two more really good NFL seasons in him.

Hargrave and Bosa next to each other.... 😲. Armstead and Hargrave together inside is also scary. I think you will see a 2019 version and spike from AA with the addition of Hargrave. If Drake Jackson can make that sophomore jump in 2023 and I'm high on him, the 2023 49ers Defensive Line could dang well be just as good or very close to that dominant 2019 D-Line we had. Let's Gooooooo!

I don't know. Just a bunch of subjective "stats" from Pff

I wish I could be more excited. 30 years old. 50% of his sacks came in the last two seasons of his 7 year career when he was on a star studded defensive line. Last year he had 3 multi sack games. 3 against the texans and their amazing offense. 2 against his old team, the steelers who were struggling offensively with a rookie qb, and after losing a lot of their offensive line. 2 more sacks against the bears, and fields..... 1 sack in 3 playoff games.... wtf are we paying 21 million a year for? This dude had an awesome year against one of the easiest schedules Everlast year, and has been average or below the rest of his career. I know he played in the Steelers 3-4, but I would have rather kept mccglichey than sign this guy. The closer I look, the more I dislike it. Please, someone convince me otherwise. We have Bosa to extend, and now it looks like we will probably have to let aijuk walk or get traded.

Um did you not know that early on with the Steelers, he played NOSE TACKLE in a 3-4? They don't tend to get a lot of sacks....
