They also don't bat down the ball much like Chris Jones, Deforest Buckner or Arik Armstead. So it works both ways. You get a lot of tipped balls. Incomplete passes and even interceptions. Taller with long arms and big hands has lots of advantages and great points too.

Except Buckner and AA rarely batted down passes.

Great signing by SF but Hargrave is not particularly strong against the run (49.0 PFF grade, 92nd among interior defenders). He's a good pass rusher from the inside, but the 49ers are already good at rushing the passer. Also, DeForest Buckner points out that he signed for the same amount, so why didn't they just hold on to Buckner, who is the better and younger player? I get that it's good to improve your team while simultaneously weakening your rivals, but I think they're setting themselves up for a Rams-like problem in 2024.

Because at that point we didn't have 2 cheap rookie QBs we had Jimmy G eating up more salary cap. It's not apples to apples.

As for Hargrave and run defence, he was known as more of a run-stuffer earlier in his career so I wouldn't give up hope of him defending the run.

Except that the cap increases DRASTICALLY in 2024. They also have all their picks minus a 5th next year with multiple comp picks likely coming.

Swing and a miss.

Not just that, but Buckner got a lot more guranteed money.

Sometimes they do. Tall with long arms really helps a lot. In a different way. Short and compact can work too. But you won't get many batted down passes with Hargrave.

Yeah, the salary cap situation was different. I don't think anyone, fans included, were happy to see DeFo traded. He is one of those guys who will always get free drinks when niner fans are around.

with that said, the salary cap situation and projections were different back then. I'd of loved to keep him but us trading him wasn't a bad move. Other moves were the ones that didn't work out (Kinlaw etc).

i love the Gravedigger signing! Absolutely love it. This is going to make our front seven just devastating. Let's hope for health!

Head and shoulders above Kinlaw which is unfortunate because you would have wanted Kinlaw to be worth the pick. The interior will be so much better. This team missed DJ Jones- a plugger that required double teams at times. Is Armstead hanging by a thread going forward?!

The salary cap was also not as large as it is now back when Buckner was trying to get paid. That 4 year 84 mil deal isn't as outrageous now as it was back then. I believe back then that would have been better or right with Aaron Donald 💰

It is probably just a numbers game, there are only so many 6-5 people that can move at full speed with balance hunched over, then of that group there are only so many that are 300 pounds.

Some of the best DT I have ever seen are 6 foot to 6-3. I would want those guys as low to the ground as we can get them.

This is probably the best interior we have had since BY and Stubby. I don't think we have nearly the same first step and penetration of those two....but we still have real talent inside now.

Yeah I agree. That's true. We upgraded and you have to be happy.

I prefer a guy that can penetrate and move the QB. If he gets close enough he can still bat down passes. In a typical game, there might be 2 or 3 passes batted down. Sometimes it's the D line and sometimes it's a LB. Pressure up the middle is a much better way to stop passes.

This. ^^ Drake Jackson had quite a few batted passes, so that was encouraging

That can certainly help a lot too and is very important.
Still rock hard about this signing. 😍😍

Gonna need to hold three people every play. Someone's going to get caught.

Bosa, Armstead and the Gravedigger is pretty scary. Especially if Drake steps up.
