That was the principal reason he was signed. We needed more interior pressure to allow more freedom for Bosa outside. That move depended on someone else inside being the run stuffer. In recent games, Anderson has proven to be that guy. Adjusted for a minimum snap count, PFF now ranks him #17, slightly better than Vita Vea against the run.
Will Anderson's emergence allow the 49ers to keep Hargrave? With the restructuring, the 49ers now have $65M in cap space for next season. It's close but cutting Maliek Collins post-June 1 next season would save a bit more. Collins has not been a good run defender either.
