They gave up nothing and owe him nothing. The only thing they did was insulate themselves from *needing* to draft a kicker. Every option is still on the table.

Except if they don't draft a kicker or get Gould back were stuck with a liability at an important position. We have taken Gould for granted all these years because he's pretty automatic. The only times we've had K issues is when Gould is hurt. Most teams understand that K is a volatile and fairly unreliable position. If we think we can just roll with Zane Gonzalez to save a few bucks we'll be seeing a shot of Lynch grimacing with his hands on his head in the press box after we lose a big game due to a missed kick.

I don't see the huge drop off. Zane has attempted more long kicks than Robbie so his % is a little lower. The difference between 86% and 90% for the career isn't huge. Then you look at the more recent years and the difference is negligible. He gives the Niners a little more range if they need it. In any case I wouldn't lose sleep over this. They gave up nothing and filled a roster spot.

Still have undrafted and street free agents to create competition as well as perhaps other potential trade possibilities. Long off season and a lot of time left until regular season begins, we are far from stuck at this point in time.

I am sorry but this is the worst trade in franchise history, 49ers could have Zane for FREE!

Looolllll
I'm hoping this guy isn't the guy. Is Lynch planning on finding more kickers and have an open competition in camp? Otherwise we're in trouble

He has value to the team trading him. He's got good numbers and he's still young. Can't get everything for free.

We'll be fine. I'm sure they'll pick up another kicker, but this guy should win it.

Ok great. The new guy alters nothing.

If you watched him with the Cardinals you absolutely would. Regular kicks he would nail just fine but he had some of the worst results kicking with the game on the line of any kicker I've ever seen.

He's never had trouble when the stakes were low but man was he bad at clutch kicking situations. You go from Gould who was golden in the clutch to a guy who seems to choke up and get inside his head in big moments. i hope there's a Plan B and C out there as well.

The fact he cost nothing other than what we will pay him if he wins the competition is a plus.

Since it was only a switch of positions on a single late-round pick, what it does is gives Lynch some flexibility in the draft. If a good name pops up, they draft him. If not, they rely on Gonzalez and a FA/UDFA.

Now it is time for my nap.
Im sorry. I love Lynch, but WHAT....THE.....ACTUAL......f**k?????!!!!!! You f**king traded for someone you could have signed off the street for the absolute league minimum?????????

If we sign him you likely have to give up guarantees. Even if it's minimal. Here there are no guarantees he makes less than 600k and it was just a late round pick swap next year.

Literally cost us nothing to assure we at least get him in the building. Better than having no options

Gould is 88% as a Niner. Gonzalez is 80% for his career. Huge difference. Gould is perfect in the playoffs. Gonzalez is on his 4th team in 6 years for a reason.
