Here's my prediction before the season starts.

I'm not keeping Ray Ray because two different return guys made my 53, and because I think Ronnie Bell is so polished that we don't need more pure receiving, and Pearson can return and be utilized like Deebo somewhat.

I think we will sign or trade for another DE at some point, which is why I put an asterisk next to Ferrell and Bryant . I'm really not sold on either one of them and expect one will be cut if we add another pass rusher.

I also choose Ilm Manning as the 8th offensive lineman because he's the only young OL who could play multiple positions IIRC. Unless Poe can be relied upon as a backup center, which then changes my picks to Poe and Fisher.

I'm sure I'll get some flack for some of my predictions. But its early.

I can see Laborn over TDP

Pearson isn't even signed with us, he hasn't signed anywhere that I know of, & McCloud is making it IMO, Same with Gray, I have 6 WRs

Of the OL, Zakelj is most likely to make it, he has versatility, C/G/T, I can't see a UDFA making it, if any then Fisher who is a RT, but projects inside.

Again can't see a UDFA beating out a draft pick, not when they took Beal in the 5th.

I have no issues with Graham, I like Winters too.

I think Jamison is a long shot to make it, he won't be active if he does.

Knight is a CB to me, and Hartsfield was brought in by Wilks, he knows Wilks, and what he wants Wilks to do, I have Hartsfield making it.

The rest I agree with, I can see Pryor over Moore.

Okay, Mini-Camp is over. Where are we with the 53? We are going to wait until the day before Training Camp to officially submit our 53 man rosters for the first contest. Only the bold proceed. Things will be happening between then and now. I would like to see where everyone is at in the meantime.
This is going off just the camp reports and the battles noted here:

Offensive Personnel: --- 25
QB: Brock Purdy; Trey Lance & Sam Darnold
RB: Christian McCaffrey; Jordan Mason, Khalan Laborn & Ronald Awatt
FB: Kyle Juszczyk
TE: George Kittle; Cameron Latu & Brayden Willis
XWR: Brandon Aiyuk
SWR: Ray-Ray McCloud; Jauan Jennings
ZWR/F: Deebo Samuel; Ronnie Bell
LT: Trent Williams; Jaylon Moore
LG: Aaron Banks; Nick Zakelj
C: Jake Brendel
RG: Spencer Burford; Jon Feliciano
RT: Colton McKivitz; Matt Pryor

Defensive Personnel: --- 25
RW9: Nick Bosa; Clelin Ferrell
3T: Javon Hargrave; Kevin Givens & Kalia Davis
2i: Arik Armstead; T.Y. McGill
LW9: Drake Jackson; Kerry Hyder
SAM: Dee Winters; Jalen Graham
MIKE: Fred Warner; Oren Burks
WILL: Dre Greenlaw
RCB: Charvarius Ward; Darell Luter Jr.
SCB: Isaiah Oliver; Samuel Womack III
LCB: Deommodore Lenoir; D'Shawn Jamison
FS: Tashaun Gipson; Ji'Ayir Brown
SS: Talanoa Hufanga; Miles Hartsfield & George Odum

Special Teams: --- 3
LS: Taybor Pepper
PK: Jake Moody
P: Mitch Wishnowsky

Injuries: Dre Greenlaw, Qwuantrezz Knight, Elijah Mitchell, Javon Kinlaw & Darell Luter Jr. As a result, guys are moving past them quickly.
Notes: Jauan Jennings continues to struggle with drops. That WR4-6 is not settled as much as we might have originally thought. Reports are saying both Jahcour Pearson and Tay Martin are having really nice camps so far. Danny Gray is in trouble. Mitchell better watch out as every RB including Tyrion Davis-Price is looking good right now. Some are already saying Jordan Mason is a lock to be the #2. Ronald Awatt is showing very strong as a 3rd down receiver too.

I don't hate it, but I'd be very worried with our backups RBs being UDFAs, Mason I believe in, but I haven't seen anything from Laborn or Awatt to judge them, I've heard good things, need to see in a game.

I think Gray still makes it, 6 WRs make it, but funny I was on JonnyDel's podcast last week, he said his surprise cut was Gray, I said a guy in trouble might be McCloud, due to the new return rules, I initially thought no McCloud will make it, but now I'm wondering if the new return rules will make him less valuable.

While there's a lot I agree with, couple big things jump out:
1) Laborn and Awatt at RB. No way. MAYBE one, but definitely not both
2) DE: Robert Beal will make the team. No way only 4 DEs are on the 53
3) CB and TE: D'Shawn Jamison to the practice squad for Dwelley or Werner. Jamison has PS written all over him and Kyle likes 4 TEs
4) OL: Id like to keep 9 OL, but 8 may be more realistic given the need for a 3rd QB
5) LB: Flannigan-Fowles probably makes the team, but it'll be a fight between DFF, Winters and Graham for 2 spots
6) DT: Kinlaw makes it if health, but I know thats a big IF

Haha. Nice. I agree...the one I just did was based on the reports and leaders today through an accumulation of camp reports from every source I could find. So it gives a different perspective.

Guys like Mitchell and Kinlaw are still very likely to make the team despite being out this far. Gray and Beal too.

Now it's time for the pads to come on.

PS: Thanks for the podcast tip. I added to my bucket.

Great call. We always have that one surprise cut too. And one surprise make too!

Great two more recent 3rd rounders down the drain. Lol

LOL. It's what we do!
My 6th projection, https://49erscap.com/index.php/2023/06/10/my-6th-2023-49ers-53-man-roster-projection-with-practice-squad-plus-2023-2024-cap-ramifications-post-otas-minicamps/

The ones I went over the most, TDP or Laborn, went with TDP, as I think Laborn makes it thru waivers, I also considered 3 backs & 4 TEs, but Dwelley doesn't go thru waivers, so he can be signed to the PS.

My surprise cut: Oren Burks, I don't think it's GTD he makes the roster, they took 2 LBs that are under team control thru 2026, kept McCrary-Ball as LB 5.

Still see 6 WRs, with Gray, Bell, & McCloud as the backups.

I went with a fav of NCs Leroy Watson on the PS, if he impresses, maybe he wins the Swing T spot?

Still not signed by the 49ers, not signed by anyone, kinda shocked he hasn't signed on anywhere, he did good for the Sea Dragons.

Those clips must have been from his tryout. Bummer because he gives us that skill set we're trying to get from Gray.

Update: Krueger confirmed he tried out again with us 2 days ago. There's real interest.

We have to automatically push the 3rd rounders ahead even if they're not the clear better players...Gray, Davis-Price, etc. The FO isn't going to want to give up on them yet and there will always be a bit of ego involved too.

Oren Burks would be a good pick. He played well last year and is a really good ST player. I could still see a path for him out though.

Too funny, he just got beat 3 times in a row by Ferrell so I removed him. But keep an eye on him once the pads come on.
