Does Kyle want a franchise QB

100 percent.

My point is.. If we stumble into the true top 10qb.. Then yes we pay him. But I don't see us paying 55mil for Purdy. Lance has the upside to be a top 10qb but we may never know.

The title probably should be does Kyle NEED a "Franchise" QB. Every coach undoubtedly wants one

So again, I'd say this is based on your idea of what it takes to be a top 10 QB in the NFL. Lance has the potential to be one because he is big, fast, has a strong arm, and tests really well. Brock apparently doesn't have that potential because he doesn't have those* physical traits. Yet when Brock played, we all saw a QB playing at a top 10 level.

Is it at least possible that you aren't correctly identifying what makes a great QB in this league? Would Drew Brees in his prime be an elite QB today?

Why isn't every team falling in love with their big body WRs and trying to develop them into a QB? They have all the traits a great QB needs

I mostly blame fantasy football for this kind of thinking, lol.

The high ceiling type arguments are particularly contrived.

No offense to Trey, but there probably are WRs in the NFL with a decent arm that would have ran through NDSU

Onviously not. He got rid of Jimmy G.

Nice take. OP should change.

My answer would be no, with his system, our weapons and D we can win it all without a Franchise QB.

I still think you have to be approaching that level though to overcome one of the elite AFC guys.

Mahomes, Burrow, Allen for now, but can easily see Herbert and Lawrence becoming elite pretty soon, and it wouldn't shock me if Tua did

Good insight, it's very interesting to me.

You say that the stars alligned for Hurts, and you're probably right, but in this pass friendly NFL you still need one of a certain caliber to compete, even if you're stacked everywhere else.

I don't think you can do it by letting those types of players go. Who are the Eagles finding that they can win a Superbowl with if not Hurts? They pick as highly this year as they will for a long time, you taking Levis? That just won't cut it.

Well, this is where me viewing this from a 9ers lens comes into play. I'm not familiar with their coach or what other QBs look like etc... they very well may fall into the Baltimore category I stated in my last post.

As for who if not Hurts I can't answer that question. But if all things is equal. Top 5 defense and #1ish OL with AJ Brown, Devonta Smith and Goerdert I'm willing to bet there are quite a few QBs out there that could get their teams deep in the playoffs. Just like JG and that without a top tier OL.

And hell no to Will Levis for me. I think he's a worse prospect than Trey was. Anthony Richardson too for that matter

Now assuming they have a system in place... if I could traded Hurts to say HOU for #2 and was able to get Stroud/Young on rookie deal I'd rather that and keep my defense then pay Hurts

Interesting, I doubt you get #2 for Hurts straight up, maybe by chucking in one of their other 1sts.

It would take a very patient owner and a very brave GM. You get rid of Hurts, and the replacement busts they might have to call the National Guard in!

You have me intruiged, but I think all things considered if you've got a guy you can win a Superbowl with you hold on, because they aren't easy to replace.

He would be fired before he could even pull off that trade.

I believe Kyle thinks he can make any QB look serviceable. That he looks for very specific traits to fit his system.

They shot for the moon with Trey, but after what they accomplished with Purdy, I believe they have gone to the replaceable QB model. Find a low cost, or a rookie QB who can get the ball out quick and accurately. Let the playmakers do the heavy lifting and find a new QB when it's time to pay up.

Unless they find a sure fire Hof level QB they won't commit to any QB long-term.. unless it's Kirk Cousins😁

I say this all the time.

Although to give him credit he did go all in on Trey. - hoping that pays off.
nah Shanny don't want no high draft pick franchise QB, he prefers the challenge of taking college QB left overs and molding them into studs
A franchise QB can hide a number of flaws and keep a team in playoff contention for a decade. The way this 49er team is presently built does it need a franchise QB? My answer is no, the defense and offensive playmakers can get this group to a Super Bowl and win. I'm curious to see what happens with Lance, is the experiment over before it begins?
