He didn't play long, but when he was in it appeared he set the edge pretty well.

Gregory is undisciplined and it could cost us in the playoffs.

Our edge settings do suck.

I can't remember, is this dude on IR right now? If not hopefully he can get some reps in the Super Bowl and work into the rotation opposite Bosa.
Needs more playing time.
We need to play a pure Edge Setter

Young is trying to do too many things and he is out of alignment on most plays especially early.

Just play the game plan.

And where would you find one? Ferrell is on IR. Young, Gregory and Beal are pass rushers and not edge setters.
Even in practice squad, Alex Barrett and Austin Bryant aren't edge setters.

The only viable solution I see is playing Armstead at end, and while they might do it for a snap or two I don't see it happening for many snaps in the SB

I think Beal's speed would be valuable in defending toss, sweeps, screens, and end arounds though. I'm not as worried about our interior run defense as I am the edges.

I hope Beal is in the mix, with his speed he would it would be a surprise attack!!!

Do you trust a rookie end who's game is predicated on speed(ie attacks the top of the arc) and has barely played all season to be disciplined and not rush too far upfield against the QB who is the best in the game at finding those escape lanes and extending plays or taking off?

This is going to be another Jalen Hurts type game with slow rush through contact where the entire DL is focused on caging in Mahomes by staying in their rush lanes, rushing to proper depth and being selfless by overlapping vacated rush lanes.

If they play contain rush again, unlike versus Hurts, this time the QB can read coverages.

"We don't contain QBs; we cage QBs and suffocate them." - quote I got from a DL coach

It's still an aggressive upfield mindset with an emphasis on a selfless, layered rush by all DL. No mush rushing.

just now

Reporter: How do you defend Mahomes?
Nick Bosa: Keeping him in the pocket.

On the flip side though, what have you seen from Gregory that gives you confidence he can perform? Cause that's who would be given the reps besides Young.

I think Beal is good enough to produce for this defense.

Me believing that, and Kyle trusting him are two different things though.

Looking forward to his development. He is our fastest edge, hopefully has a rotational role if he improves.

We'll see this year. I have a friend who's a GA junkie, and he's always thought the world of Beal, undersized and raw for sure, but he swears by his talent.

I believe as well. He has no pressure on him other than to get pressure the few snaps he will get. I like how Beal and Jackson aren't being handed anything. They will only eat what they kill. Hopefully all the edge/DE guys are better with the influx of talent. We now need beef in the middle.
