Khalan Laborn Article dated July 28, 2020
Florida State has dismissed former five-star running back Khalan Laborn for a "violation of team policy," the Seminoles confirmed Tuesday afternoon. 247Sports first reported Laborn's expected dismissal.
Laborn was the nation's top all-purpose back in the class of 2017. The 5-foot-11, 208-pound Virginia native redshirted in 2017 and missed almost all of the next season with a horrific knee injury.
He returned last season, appearing in 10 games with one start. Laborn finished with 63 carries for 297 yards and four touchdowns. Among the highlights: a career-high 69 rushing yards at Clemson and 94 all-purpose yards and a touchdown in a win over Syracuse.
His FSU tenure also included multiple off-field incidents. Laborn was suspended for last year's game against the Gators for violating team rules and wasn't with the team during the 2017 Independence Bowl. He also did not participate in last season's Sun Bowl defeat and was cited for marijuana possession in late 2018.

AB81 penciled him as a backup for Trent on his projected 53 man roster. Why not!

This Laborn guy looks legit, bye bye TDP

Just looked at his highlights, you weren't kidding. Looks like CMC running.

How the heck was this guy not drafted!!!!?

Phoenix and OTC said knee injuries and off the field stuff.

Only other knock I can find is he did lose 3 fumbles last year. Jeff Wilson had that problem too.

Helluva talent though!

I guess he "fit."

Doesn't necessarily mean much. They have Dohnovan West a decent sized guarantee last year then cut him before the pre-season even started.

Jordan Mason, Jake Brendel, Kevin Givens, Kerry Hyder all say hello
Neither Jake Brendel nor Kerry Hyder were UDFA rookies for the 49ers
Yeah, I know, doesn't change the fact that they were UDFAs and are now starters in the NFL. T

UDFAs make up about 40% of NFL rosters. That's pretty amazing when you think about how much time teams spend evaluating players before the draft. That shows how many players are buried deep on the roster for some college behind highly rated 4 or 5 star players. They never get a real chance to play until maybe their senior year. They may also be stuck in a system that doesn't allow them to show what they can do. That's one thing that the transfer portal may change.

That's way more than I would have thought. Lots of missed talent on draft day.

I heard Cowherd mention that 40% on his show and thought it sounded high. I checked it out and it's pretty much spot on. The number varies slightly from one season to the next but it's a reflection of how many draft picks are busts or get injured. The roster needs to be filled out some way so the UDFAs come to the rescue.

The total number of NFL players is 1696 (53 man roster). There just aren't enough players drafted to fill all those spots even if every player made the team. Roster turnover is too great from injuries, retirement and cuts. The really amazing part for me is how many UDFAs become really good players. Especially RBs and WRs.

The classic James Harrison interview immediately comes to mind when I think UDFA.

Very true. It's more indicative of competition for the same player.
Barrows ranks Colletto as the UDFA most likely to make the team, just ahead of Fisher.

Insane. MB & DL have 4 TE's, 4 RB's, 2 FB's and 6 WR's making the initial roster (27 on offense). LOL...no way.

Yeah that didn't make sense to me.

I can see a path for Colletto making the 53 with his flexibility though (in theory). TDP's spot is going to come under serious heat.

Willis is a move-TE too; like Dwelley, can start to learn the intricacies of the FB position as well. Colletto is probably in direct competition with him and Dwelley so there is a legit path esp. if they decide to keep 4 TE's again but I remind fans, we kept 4 TE's annually b/c Woerner can't catch and Dwelley can't block. The new TE's have plenty of upside to do both.

I missed that, I have 6 WRs, 3 TEs 4 RBs 1 FB making it right now in my official first projection, course it'll change over the next 3-4 months.
