Draft 2023: How'd we do?

incase anyone missed Mad Mel Kipper. Lmao this guy was outta control. Hahaha
I give them a C based on what they actually got but that is subject to change of course once we see how some of them play. Based on where they were picking in every round and how weak this draft was overall, I give them a B+.

It sucked to not have a 1st or 2nd rounder but this wasn't a strong draft anyway. If you were to pick a year to not have a 1st or 2nd this was the year. There just weren't many guys that on paper appear to be future HOF players. The TE group was the only strong one. On top of that they picked at the end of every round so I'm sure there were guys they would have liked if someone else hadn't picked ahead of them.

I still can't get over the lack of size. Average weight of all draft picks was 218 lbs with nobody over 295. The last time they didn't draft a DL or OL over 300 was 2006. It's like a throwback to the Walsh era when he didn't want anyone over 300 on his OL. He had Bubba but kept him on a strict diet.

I thought we did well for where we were drafting.

I don't think we will know much about this draft until a year or two from now. I think ST was on our minds during this draft.

Based on the fact that none of them have even played a snap for us yet or has the front office got them signed yet, F-, just pathetic.
waste all that draft capital on guys we aren't even playing? What a joke

Shannylynch knows how to draft .
I read the article at the top of the page. It looks like the so called draft experts gave the Niners higher grades than most of the fans.

Regardless of who we draft, I fully trust Lynch and Shanahan. We have been so spoiled with winning football since they took over. We are so close to getting that Super Bowl and NFC Championship win. If the ball doesn't get tipped, if we had just intercepted that 1-pass, if our TE AND WR block that DE, things would have been so much different.

I believe there is no replacement out there for our GM and Coach that is better. I got my season tickets, planning on wearing my Randy Cross jersey or Bryant Young jersey this year and screaming my head off! Go NINERS!

After the way our dline faded last year and jimmy brock and our backup got clobbered, these tasks should have been job 1 imo.

Unless there's some magic trick up their sleeve, i cant understand what our brain trust is thinking. It seems bizarre, really.2 bkup tight ends? A top 100 kicker? A wide receiver? We have the best wr room in the nfl. Really?

Im sure some of these guys will work out. But as a team we didn't move forward the way we need for a deep run in 2023. My 2c.

I'm not sure how to take your take seriously. I wouldn't say it was a great draft but let's be honest there's not a allot of room when there's no round one or two pics. I would've like to see a trade up using a later round but i am content with what was done. B and High C is what most people grade.

if you were expecting a complete game changing player day one I'm sorry. Not sure if you understand where we're at. Do we need help yeah but again the draft wasn't a great one to be going with and then we didn't start till really late.

We were the last guy to arrive at prom with our cousin but left with the nerdy hot band chick at the end. Nothing overly impressive but expectations should have been tempered.

kicker was a reach but he is a good kicker and the kicker we traded for sucks. The two tight ends are actually intriguing if they can morph the two together but the second was so late you don't know. For crying out loud we drafted Brock later and he seemed to help us out last year.

temper your hate for the draftees and Shanalynch till after the season.
So when we traded up in the 3rd, I was torn between TE Darnell Washington and LB Trenton Simpson. We were lucky with Kittle staying so healthy last year, but when he's missed games before we had NOTHING at the position. Washington would have been huge protection there, plus a beast in the run game in trwo TE sets, and a massive red zone threat which we've not had. Simpson was just unbelievable value at that spot. Well the Ravens took Simpson at 86, so made the choice easy for me. I think this was a mistake here. I don't hate the Brown pick, I just think he would have been there at 99/101 - and I would have taken him there. With the TE's going off the board, I think we absolutely panicked with the Latu pick, which just made it all worse.

With Wayna Morris off the board, I kind of see not taking an OT here. Freeland just does not impress me. Dawand Jones would have been my preference, and I think he could be a fit if he dropped down to 350 or so - but with his weight being such an unknown, I see the risk. After some thought and how late the 3rd round picks were, I'm not hating the Moody pick. Drafting a kicker is just such a crap shoot, but it's still safer than having to go with Zane Gonzales. So really if we had just swapped and gotten Washington instead of Latu, I'd love the 3rd round.

Luter and Beal both have some great traits, and should provide good depth at the least. And Winters gives us some depth and potential replacement for Az, with the versatility to play inside or out. None of the 7th round picks impress me at all - but that's why they are 7th round picks.

Now the undrafted: Joey Fisher looks GOOD, but I've already made the comparrison to our excitment over Poe last year. So hoping this is someone we can at least develop and see him playing in a year or two. Word was he was even taking snaps at the combine, to show he could move to center even. And although I was focused on Hunter Luepke (and probably would have taken him with one of our 7ths), Jack Colleto has me re-thinking that. My "issue" with Luepke was how to fit him on the roster. You just can't keep two pure FB's, but he played some TE, so I potentially saw him stashed as a 3rd/4th TE and then eventually taking over for Juice. But Colleto could have a real good shot at sticking on special teams, while also being a backup FB - and taking over for Juice when it's time. So once again, I am more excited by our undrafted signings than I am some of the players we drafted!

So overall I liked the draft - with Washington being the big miss, and lack of OT being a big miss - but a partly understandable one based on who was available.

Ny post ranked us 32 out of 32.

Some go off the picks that were made, some go off overall. We had no 1st or 2nd round picks, and very late 3rd rounds.

My grade rationale has nothing to do with player eval or draft position. I don't see how that affects anything or why "national" pundits are grading us lower because we didn't have high round picks. Makes absolutely no sense.

How well did you use the picks you have? That's the only yardstick. That's what should be measured.

I don't think we addressed dline depth adequately or competition for rg. Burfurd hasn't shown enough to be given the job imo. Others disagree and have different views. But anyway that's the reason for my grade of d.
