Give the 49ers the equivalent injury "luck" of the SB winner that year, and they would've been the SB winner themselves most likely.

2011 - #10 before Jimmy Garoppolo was why we lost to NYG had Tedd Ginn not gotten hurt.....if the game played out similarly, then def SF wins.....but the Niners could've also easily lost the game 17-3 if not for Vernon Davis being a timely star.
2012 - The Smith Brothers were not operating at full capacity in the postseason. Flacco was effectively better than Mahomes in this SB appearance because of the damn lack of pressure on his ass.
2013 - Mario Manningham injury in 2013? I dunno.....maybe Seattle was gonna need luck. Or possibly could blame it on Crabtree and the Niners taking forever to get their win streak going allowing Seahawks to have #1 seed.
2019 - Dee Ford, Weston Richburg very likely could've gotten the Niners over the top had they been fully healthy (and Richburg played)
2021 - Jimmy Garoppolo injured late in season and some OL issues
2022 - You know what happened

I really wonder what Kyle thinks in the macro about all this. Like, does he wonder if acquiring a certain player or types of players could get the job done even when stuff is failing left and right? Can a top 10 QB be enough to win it all with him at the helm and the defense?

It's insane to be this freaking good year in and year out and not close it out.

The only thing that's a somewhat legitimate excuse is this elite QB nonsense with Mahomes getting the preferential treatment, enough so that it makes a difference.

I appreciate your detail and post

I think all teams can do this to an extent, like PHI can say Hurts wasn't at 100% and KC would have said the same about Mahomes, had he lost. With 53 man rosters, there will always be someone hurt after 17 weeks of football, and postseason action on top of that

depth, load management is key, plan for CMC to be healthy in Jan, that means limit the per game touches as you go, just like an MLB team wouldn't overtax a starting pitcher in May, etc.

The 2 that jump out are the Browns and the Lions. Those cities have had teams forever and still haven't won. The Browns lost their franchise when it moved to Baltimore who has won recently but the city hasn't been able to celebrate a SB win.

29 years for the Niners is a long time but at least they've been to 2 in this century after dominating the 80s. The Bay Area has had 3 world series titles and 4 NBA titles in the last 13 years so that helps take some of the sting away.

Not for a 49ers fan living in Illinois lol

Any playoff loss during the Jimmy era was directly due to Jimmy choking in key situations. There's no other way to spin it. He had 10 point leads in 2 game late and all he had to do was make a play, sustain a drive, and close the opposition out. He failed miserably and I'm glad he was booted off the team for it.

you bury your own logic, by saying the fact that the D was handed 10 point leads 2x

we all can view the turning point plays, plays that should be made

one was 3rd and 15, the D should force the stop
the other was catching an INT that was on a platter to be caught

go back to the LAR NFCCG, JG was hitting a strike to Kittle to give us that 10 point lead
we all know JG isn't Mahomes, if he's giving elite Ds a 10 point lead in the fourth I will take that 10 times out of 10. D has to do something not fold on plays that should be made. That is my view.

You blame the defense for putting up 17 and 20 points in those two games respectively.
