The former 49ers quarterback, who signed with the Raiders this offseason, recently detailed his uncomfortable experience after San Francisco traded multiple draft picks to select Trey Lance with the No. 3 pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.

"Yeah, the year before was real awkward," Garoppolo told the San Francisco Chronicle. "That was tougher than this past year, honestly. You're always gonna be dealt a hard hand at some point, and you've just got to make the best of it, and that's what I've tried to do. That was a hard time. But I had some good people around me to lean on.

"The brothers in the locker room, those guys played a big role. I don't think the fans always saw all that stuff, but those guys really picked me up when I was down sometimes. That's why I love those guys in the locker room. All the crap that we went through for four to five years, whatever it was, we all stayed together in the locker room, and I thought that's what made us such a tight group."

It's not talked about a ton, but I feel like Kyle and Jimmy had a much more tumultuous relationship than has even been reported. I get this "internal screaming" vibe from Jimmy.

Oh they most definitely did, IMO. It's one of the reasons I have so much respect for Jimmy because of how he handled it all with class - even when everyone would of understood if he freaked out. Reminds me a lot of how Alex smith handled his situation here (different circumstances but just handled tough situations with class). Both just handled it so well.

Whichever reporter who said Latu was having the worst camp of anyone they watched.. they weren't kidding. Dude wasn't drafted in the 3rd just to block. Super disappointing, but not the end of the world. Many rookies have bad drop problems and it's fixable.

Someone else said it though, as of right now he's another Vance McDonald.

He isn't a particularly good blocker either to start with. Willis is a better blocker and Willis is an effort blocker himself mostly.

Ya I never understood that pick. If he would've went to Iowa State, he would've been a day 3 pick. Bama players always get overdrafted at times rightfully so at times. He wasn't some raw athlete that needed time, he was an above average athlete for a TE and supposedly his best skill set, his hands, have looked bad. Like with all draft picks I'll give him a couple years and hope I'm wrong

I've read reporters refer to him as an excellent blocker in camp.

What if he falls to QB3, in this Sam 'or' TL depth chart?

And what if Sam is 3rd on the depth chart?

You didn't answer the question, I think we are keeping 3 QBs, its our 3 QB rule, after all. Sam is on what a 4.5m, meanwhile TL is at a 9.3m cap hit and 10.8 next season. 4.5m is pretty rich for QB3, however 9.3m is a lot moreso, also you have the next year hit. So if they sour on TL, the contract becomes an issue, is why you are seeing trade TL chatter, like now on the homepage. If they sour on Darnold, they can simply QB3 him, at much less dollars than TL, or cut. And QB3 Allen.

Will you answer now?

Funny how you chose to read the tea leaves we get. Put more emphasis into stupid rumors than actual things reported from practice.

I dont know what Kyle will do but by almost all accounts Trey has been better than Darnold in camp. Even the select few(usually people who haven't been to all camp practices) who claim Darnold is QB2 are going off stupid things like "no interceptions" which isn't even the case anymore.

Darnold is a 55 game starter and he came in here with all that experience and yet Trey is processing better and Sam isn't ahead of him throwing wise or moving the offense wise.

So maybe stop the "what if Trey is QB3" when most things are pointing to him at worst being the 2nd best QB in camp this year behind Brock with plenty saying he's been the best.

Stacking days, they must really be grinding out there. Is it time, NC? Do we dare bump the thread?

Please don't make be breakdown the actual cap space and DM again for the 10th time.

None of the QBs are going anywhere at this point sam needs to do something to get that QB2 gig, not the other way around.

I would bet almost everything was coordinated.....the point was not to beat the other team, the point of a practice is to see what you have on your roster....

Years ago I remember a flair up, I think it was George S's watch...it might have been Mooch....but the teams had agreed to only blitz on 2nd down or only from the right or something like that....and they blitz from the left....and all hell broke loose from the coaching staff....

Point is, the coaches have a legit idea, if not a concrete understanding on what is coming on what down....they are trying to figure out how the different player packages react in different scenarios.

Jimmy is not going to get hit, Jimmy did not see anything he probably has not seen countless times before.....he should look outstanding in practice.

I dont think anyone is going anywhere 1 to 3 either

Does not make any sense to carry dead cap space to maybe get a late draft pick. Not with the history of injury at QB the 49ers have had in recent memory.

There is probably better draft capital letting Trey walk as a FA then they could get in trade.

Boo f**king Hoo.

Maybe if he didnt s**t the bed in the playoffs or could throw a ball more than 5 yards past the LOS we would not have had to trade 1st rd picks to move up for a QB.

I really do think we are in great hands, this season. The recovery being so quick, he has time here to get these invaluable reps. I think we will even see him in preseason, although not this coming game.

I guess it shouldn't matter that he threw 2 touchdowns against as I was told a "hot trash secondary" even though they got Marcus peters and have two great pass rushers and our offensive line isn't at full strength. But hey, let's downplay it

Exactly. I feel like some feel this is a true game - it's more scenario based situations and putting their players in certain situations to see what they can do. How the QBs read the defense, how the skill players get open, his the lines block/penetrate. It's practice… it's to gather data on your own players.
