The Not So Good

1. TE Cameron Latu.

Didn't catch a pass, but he did drop two, so at least he got some action. Latu is a terrible tight end who is not an NFL player. The 49ers should waive him.

2. TE Charlie Woerner.

Didn't catch a pass, either, but he did commit a false start penalty, so at least he did something. Woerner is a terrible tight end who is not an NFL player. The 49ers should waive him.

LMAO!

I swear these guys can't find a damn TE behind Kittle for s**t

I wonder if they are trying to find another Kittle that was overlooked cause he didn't have a lot of production but we end up with tight ends with little production cause they aren't good.

I agree with you, I think they want another Kittle. One reason is Purdy likes to throw to this tight ends.
It seems like they can't find anybody according to the fans. Some want another TE. Some want better DBs. Some want better O linemen. Some want a guy on the other end to compliment Bosa. Some want a speedy WR. The problem is that when you are drafting late in each round you aren't as likely to get the best players. They have to rely on free agency. Then you need cap space which is hard to get wen you have good players commanding high salaries. Even with all these obstacles they managed to build a contender without a proven franchise QB. They must be doing something right.

One thing they do right is develop players from the lower rounds and UDFA, but those are come as they go. They do their best to find OT's and QB's, etc... but who would have thought the last pick in the 7th round would be a diamond in the rough. Point being is that a lot of the draft and free agency acquisitions are luck. What the 49ers coaching staff do very well is developing the players they do get from the draft and free agency. Kris Kocurek anybody?

Luck is one of the most important parts of sports. Luck in having someone fall to you in the draft. Lucj that the picks translate to the pros. Luck that they stay healthy. Luck that the breaks go your way.
My Risers and Fallers from week one - who played well, who struggled. Not an exhaustive list but guys who stood out to me.

True. They did try in FA but felt they should have gone a bit harder. There's been quite a few available in trade and FA over the past 4 years. They've flamed out drafting after Kittle.

Who was available in Trade and FA?

we've gone over this so many times, but it's all revisionist history now

Oh man, TE's have moved a lot the past 5 years or so. 9ers really tried too on a few of them but it didn't work out. I'm not mad about it. It's just unfortunate we haven't been able to secure one or develop one in the same stratosphere as Kittle to help him out.

Kyle went after Hooper before he signed in CLE, I've been screaming for them to get one for years but I don't know why they're trying to find another Kittle in the likes of finding a guy who really didn't produce at all in college like Kittle and hope he does in the NFL. Man f**k that go after a guy who actually produced and see what happens. Kittle was a huge lottery ticket hit and I doubt it happens again, Brayden Willis looks like he has potential tho

I think Kyle will cut our newly drafted TEs some slack. Idk if he will cut them and risk putting them on the practice squad, but it's looking likely.

Kyle has said that he asks more of the TE in his system than anyone else (besides the QB). That's a lot of responsibility and knowledge needed. I'm sure these guys are stressed to the gills.

Yeah, Hooper was one of them for sure. I hear you. And Kittle has been playing banged up for years...could have used the help for sure. Let's hope one of Latu or Willis becomes the guy!
"Mason has looked solid during camp with several nice runs. More importantly, Mason has shown himself to be the more capable back in pass protection. The former undrafted free agent is not afraid to square up defenders when it comes to protecting the quarterback." On the other hand, when it comes to pass protect, TDP is still a long way to go compared to the 3 RB's in front of him. It's more than likely Shanahan and co. will pick Mason over TDP for the last roster spot, however, if they want 4 RB's in the 53, I hope they give Laborn a chance to compete.
