That is a name that required I delete him from memory during the first year I saw him play. Coming out of college, i just believed he was going to be a man to man type of DB. My father, who had season tickets to the Niners and was an avid fan, used to laugh at me whenever I would see him get toasted. I would immediately announce that
"that clown can't cover a cough!!!" and my Dad and the whole house would breakout in laughter. I was a DB kind of kid and really wanted to play in Pop Warner so I looked for DB's I could fashion my game after. Thought Bruce was going to be an example. Turned out he was an example of what NOT to be

Plummer was afirst rounder but he was their 2nd pick at #24. Julian Peterson went at #16.

Lott was drafted as a corner but later switched to safety. In 1981 it was Lott and Wright who was drafted in the 2nd round at corner with Williamson and Hicks at safety. Imagine getting 2 corners like Lott and Wright in one draft. Then then added Willliamson who hit like a train.

The best 1st round corner that stayed at that position was Jimmie Johnson in 1961. He was so good in his day that teams didn't even throw in his direction.

WOW!! Wish I had known that. Rafer's son was one of my customers. Didn't know it until I had seen Rafer and his wife at his son's home. Let him know I felt he was a great athlete.
