Zakelj had a couple of BAD holding calls but other than that, he has played quite well. He's big, strong, good feet. Just needs more work.

I'm guessing the FO felt Manning would clear waivers. He didn't. Chess game.

OLine is the one squad I want to have real good depth in and developing talent. Manning looked really good. I'm thinking it was a close fight between Manning and Zakelj as to who to put on the 53.

Meh, Foerster did a good job developing Brendel and the interior line last year. I, for one, trust his evaluations. I just wish ShanaLynch would give him Champagne instead of lemons. All he can do with lemons is make lemonade.

That was my assessment as well. The FO figured there would be interest in both but Manning had a better chance to slip through to the PS. It didn't work. IOW, from what the staff saw in practice and in games, Zakelj was more likely to help the team this season.

Amen. What are you supposed to do with these low leveled guys? Nor can I put the decision to release Manning on Forerster? How do we know he didn't fight for the guy and was overruled? They clearly like huge framed tackles with longer wingspans than what Manning provided.

I was hoping to keep this guy over Feliciano whatever his name is.

Zakelj has some ability. Manning had some wingspan deficiencies which Foerster was concerned about in some of the transcripts I read. Add in Zakelj's durability and I think he'll be a good OLineman. I'm thinking he can probably pinch hit at OT despite the fact that he'll be the interior line's main backup.

I think in addition to the 11 draft picks we have next year (I think I got that from AB81) we have the additional 4th rounder from the Trey/Dallas trade. I'm hoping the Chargers tank this season, fire their coach, and we get Rasuahn Slater for peanuts like CMC trade before the trade deadline.

They do, indeed. All the better to hold in the playoffs with that added wingspan.

Kidding, but yeah, they have a certain type of OLinemen that they like, and Foerster in particular likes those guys with long arms and big frames. Dan Audic was a smaller OT - similar to an undersized Manning - and Bill had to call rollouts to the opposit side of the field because of some of Dan's pass blocking deficiencies. There is a reason *The Catch* was a pass on a roll out to the right, and not the left.

Long Island Ice Tea!

Yeah, I'd have liked Manning on the practice squad, but there are other under developed OLIneman in the NFL. UDFA means that your a raw talent and need time to develop. There are a lot of those in the League and become available year in and year out. Brunskill, Tom Compton, are examples of that. I think, so far, Poe's not been poached. Think positive!

Foerester has always been a measurables biased guy. It is what it is. NCommand called it, Manning never had a shot no matter how well he did -- and he did about as good as you possibly can for a rookie IMO. It's too bad that now we have to see him in Arizona, and I pray that doesn't come back to bite us.

Unlikely to bite us this year, as Manning will take time to develop. Cardinals this year are a bottom feeding team, or so I think. Unlikely, this year, losing Manning to them will make a difference. Having said that, eventually Manning might turn out to be a good player, afterall Pettis burned Kyle after being let go here, but Kyle still managed to get into the playoffs.
Losing manning was not necessary. We all saw how good he was during pre-season. Feel like they will regret that decision.
Foerster must be back on that white powder begging strippers to do it off of their buttholes.

Probably given the lack of depth with our O line. The tape on Manning was too good to ignore. Good for him though to get a contract instead of the pay on the PS.
