Trading rookies is not out of the question. Recall a few years ago Jonas Griffith was a UDFA prospect playing well but we had no room for him, we were able to trade him for a swap of 7th for 6th.
All that said, I see the following as potential cut-down trade fodder:
1. QB Brandon Allen
You might ask, why not Lance? Unlike Lance, Allen turns 31 in a few weeks and offers little to no upside. He may not have any trade value at all, and if no one wants him, it likely works out for us either way with us possibly being able to get him back on the PS. Also, Lance is the only QB under contract thru next year. Trading Trey wouldn't help us financially this year and if he was shipped off and we can't retain Sam beyond this year, we'll be in disastrous shape in terms of QB depth/insurance. I don't get any impression that the team wants to do this either. I'll go on record saying it ain't happening this year.
2. TE Ross Dwelley
With Woerner running with the ones while Kittle recovers from injury, it appears Ross is not high on the depth chart. He's a solid player, but more expensive than the rest of the reserves. He's also filled in at FB in a pinch, but reserve TE Fumagalli has been working a lot of fullback in the last two games and I get the impression he'll be on the PS along with Jack Colletto.
3. LB Demetrius Flannigan Fowles
He's a key cog on special teams but I've never been impressed with his skills on defense. More expensive than the other reserves too. Marcelino, Graham, and Winters have performed well this preseason, all flying to the ball and making plays. I don't see the upside with DFF at this point.
4. RB Ty Davis-Price
TDP seems on track to go the way of Trey Sermon at this point. He's been horrendous in pass protection and while he may have improved as a runner, he still doesn't contribute on special teams and wasn't noticeably better than McNicholls. I don't think he fits our team as well as they expected and would probably take whatever they can get for him.
5. K Zane Gonzalez
The team seems all in on Moody, given what they invested in him. Zane hasn't been given a chance at anything except kickoffs this preseason, but I expect that to change next week. They probably both get at least one kick chance. Moody has the talent, he's been phenomenal in practice and booming things with ease in pregame warm-ups, but he's got to settle down and figure out how to carry that over to live game action. It seems like the team is prepared to ride out the lumps. I kind of hate that, but it's not my decision. There are a good chunk of teams who need a kicker now and apparently don't want to spend money on Robbie, those might be looking at a guy like Zane.
